 Let me Lydia the Way

Chapter1

When I was six years old, my mother found there was something that differences me from the other girl. I used to do chopsticks with my left hand; it was a very embarrassing event in China, especially when I started to learn Arabic numerals, I always wrote 2345679 like this:

"You must be changing yourself ", my mother said, "Can't you see this is the opposite words?" But it was correct in my eyes; my world was really like this.

Since I went to primary school, I had to use right hand writing, if the teacher found me writing by left hand, he used the ruler to knock my back of hand. I often felt very confused, but then I became an ambidextrous girl.

I loved drawing and recited poetry impromptu, and also was a songster. I often received a standing ovation and laughter when I finished my performance, because a bunch of keys which my home's door was hang on my neck and flashed shining. At that time, the Chinese parents were very busy and didn't get enough time to take care of their children.

 Chapter2

I always wonder about the macro world. Since I studied English with Teacher Robinson in the 51Talk, aside from the beautiful scenery and varied food ofthe Philippines in my mind, I am thinking more about the sunrise and sunset in there, what is it a track across in the sky? I can’t describe this question clearly, but I think that the sun’s track should be a different sight with certainty both of us, because Teacher Robinson lives near the equator but I live in the Northern Hemisphere.

In my youth, our social system was similar to The North Korea today, with drought and food shortage, our parents had to often stampede into a wave of panic buying, and all of schools were informed they could suspend classes.

In that case, I locked myself inside room and read the novels which I looked around for in our home. I had read the Chinese Four Great Classical Novels during 8-15 years old, and my eyes became short-sighted.

“Hi! Bookworm! Let us hang out! ”my little friends asked me.But it seems that I never heard from them, I was wishing I could become a super girl as superhero as Monkey King.

 Chapter3

At that time, the teenagers were fond of movies very much, but we had no chance to go to movies in the cinema, we usually watched the black and white films in open ground and that the topic was always one--the war. I still remember that the teacher taught us in the class: “The people have no enough food and warm wear all over the world, so we should to war and save them when you grow up”. Many years later, I can't help laughing a lot when I think of it.

It was interesting that instead of warred and saved the humankind we hoped for, the young generation were sent the rural and mountains area to laboring. At that point, we had to say goodbye to the school and books.

I stayed at a small village with the educated urban youth total of ten from 1975-1977, villagers were very poor but so kind, they helped us to build our new farmer house, taught us labor skills, and recommended me for their village primary school to teach the children for one year.

During the every Spring Festival, we always performed on open, sung, danced, the comedy show, we had no stage, no costume, but the small square of village was still very crowded. The weather was very cold and often snow, after the show for a month, I was ill with high fever continuously and had to be in the hospital, my voice became bad and the doctor told me that I couldn’t sing anymore.

Chapter4

It was a warm spring for every Chinese in 1978, life became change quietly, people begun to wear the colorful clothes and the food enriched on the dining table gradually .

The best news for youngsters, the higher education in China that was discontinued more than a decade finally begun to recruit students. I picked up my books and started to review my high school courses. In March 1978, I was 20 years old, got through the examination and entered the Northwest Normal University Academy of Fine Arts.

It was a special generation, the oldest classmate had been 33 years old who graduated from a high school ten years ago and had two children, the youngest had just finished his school life only 16 years old but each of us was studying hard. In fact, my campus life was so busy, I was a book lover but the excellent books were really short in the book market, so I had to read and copy books which I loved with my pen and notes in the library of our university during each summer vacation. It was deeply memory in my life.
