演讲题目：Structure of Technology and Convergence

内容提要：The technological convergence is conceived as a substitution of nuclei of technologies. Examples are the introduction of a sound track on the film itself, biotechnology, communications and computer technologies etc. A precondition for this process is the adaptability of different technologies like electrical and mechanical devices. The respective functionality must be definable in the same way. For this purpose a system-theoretical approach which has developed within the realm of Philosophy of Applied Science, may be useful.

The hypothesis is that a lot of technological developments can be described as convergence processes. Such each technology is considered as a daughter of two converging technologies. If this holds as a general issue, one can try to look for future convergence processes in order to make foresights about possible technological futures. Some speculative outlooks may stimulate the following discussion.

演讲人简介：

Klaus Kornwachs, born in 1947 at Engen (nearby Konstanz), Germany.

He studied Physics, Mathematics and Philosophy at Tübingen, Freiburg, Kaiserlautern and Amherst (Mass., USA). Diploma degree in Physics 1973, PhD in Philosophy 1976, Habilitation in Philosophy at University of Stuttgart 1987.

He was a Lecturer at University of Freiburg, from 1979-1981 Research Fellow at the Fraunhofer-Institute for Production Engineering and Automatization, Stuttgart. After that he was Senior Research Fellow at Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Engineering, Stuttgart, until 1992. Here, his last Position was Director of the Department for Vocational Training, Qualification Research and Technology Assessment.

Since 1990 Klaus Kornwachs is a permanent Honorary Professor for Philosophy at University Ulm. From 1992 to 2011 he held the Chair for Philosophy of Technology at Brandenburg Technical University of Cottbus. He was Founder and president of the German Society for System Research, 1991 he won the SEL-Award for Communication Technologies.

From 1997 until 1998 he was Acting Director of the Center for Technology and Society at Technology at Brandenburg Technical University of Cottbus. In 2002/03 he was Guest Professor at Technical University of Vienna and between 2001 and 2011 he was ERASMUS Visiting Professor at the Budapest University for Technology and Economy at the Department for History of Technology and Knowledge Management.

Since January 2003 to December 2009 he was Director of the Department for “Society and Technology” at the German Association of Engineers (VDI). He is editor of the book series about Philosophy of Technology at Lit Publ. Company, Münster with 22 books. From 1993 to 2009 he was a member of several working groups at VDI concerned with responsibility of engineers and evaluation of technologies. Since 2004 he is a full member of Acatech, the National Academy for Technology Sciences. Here he was a Speaker of the Topical Network “Foundation of Science and Engeneering” from 2006 to 2011. He is still member of diverse project groups.

Actually in Summer 2012 he was an ALACTEL-Lucent- Fellow at the International Institute for Cultural and Technology Studies, University Stuttgart. In September 2012 he joined the Frege-Center for Structural Sciences, University of Jena, for a shorter research stay. In Oct and November 2013 he will join the Department of Philosophy of the Dalian University of Technology. In April to May 2014 he is announced as a Visiting Fellow at the Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities at the New York State University, Binghamton.

Klaus Kornwachs is married and has three children, Leonhard (27), Gabriel (25) and Max (22).
