在西方国家，科幻小说主要被认为属于流行文化，是一种青少年文学，太空歌剧或者计算机呆子的幻想文学流派，而非所谓的高雅文化，然而芬兰除外。这种文学流派与其他文学的影响在十八世纪一起到达芬兰，在二十世纪五十年代开始广为人知，在1976年造就了最早的科幻迷。在刚刚过去的十年中，科幻小说已经成功跻身芬兰主流文学，不仅受到尊重，而且成为了芬兰的前卫文学——除此之外，似乎女性是主导了这一运动，那么这一潮流是为何，如何，以及由谁推动的呢？这就是此次讲演要介绍的主要内容。

Science fiction in Western countries has mainly been considered as popular culture, YA-literature, space opera or fantastic genre of the IT-nerds, not as part of the so called high culture. Except in Finland. The genre arrived in Finland along the other literary influences during the 18th century, became known in 1950's and created the sf fandom in 1976. During the last decade science fiction has conquered the mainstream literature, and became not only respected but also avant-garde of Finnish literature - and women seem to rule this movement. Why? How? And by whom?

    Irma Hirsjärvi博士生于1960年，在2009年于芬兰Jyväskylä 大学的当代文化研究中心工作时，她发表了关于芬兰科幻小说迷和他们的人际网的博士论文。她已经在爱好者、科幻小说和创意写作方面发表多篇研究专著，并且已经执教“创意写作”这一课程超过十五年。此外，她还是全球青年媒介参与比较研究小组的成员之一，及这个项目在2009—2010年的协调人。（见芬兰学术项目网站www.jyu.fi/ymp）目前，她刚刚离开Jyväskylä 大学，开始为芬兰坦佩雷大学的新闻媒介与戏剧学部开创科研项目。当然，她同时也是一个资深的科幻文学爱好者。

    Dr Irma Hirsjärvi (1960) published her doctoral thesis on Finnish science fiction fandom and their networks in 2009, while working in The Research Centre for Contemporary Culture at the University of Jyväskylä, Finland. She has published on fandom, science fiction and creative writing, and has been teaching creative writing over 15 years.  She is a member of the research  team of the Global Comparative Research on Youth Media Participation, (Finnish Academy project www.jyu.fi/ymp) and was the coordinator of the project in 2009-2010. She is just now leaving the University of Jyväskylä and creating the research project for the University of Tampere, Unit of Media, Journalism and Theatre (www.uta.fi) in Finland. She also is a long term science fiction fan.
