Dear students

Hi there! We are Nick Arnold and Tony De Saulles, author and illustrator of the Horrible Science books.  It is our job to make the books exciting for millions of young people around the world.  Now we are looking for your help to write a book on low carbon.

We have visited China three times to talk about Horrible Science in schools and libraries and book shops and it has become very clear that low carbon plans are vital for the future. Low carbon means less pollution, better use of resources and a better climate for people everywhere.  The people who will benefit most will be your generation. 

Science is more than facts to learn in school.  Science is all around you and low carbon science is about saving our world.  In other words Love science, love life, love our world!   

This is such an important book that we want every young person in China to read it.  This means that the book must be exciting and enjoyable and we need your help to make this happen.  We would like to know what interests you and what interesting facts you can tell us about low carbon.  We would like to know what makes you laugh and what ideas you have for making the book even better.

We are grateful to Beijing Children and Juvenile Publishing House for asking us to write it.  We are also grateful to Science Talent for choosing young people to work with us.   Over the years Tony and I have had a lot of fun writing these books.  We know that we will have fun working with you on this book.  And now we have only thing left to say:  Welcome to our team!

嗨，大家好！我们是《可怕的科学》的文字作者尼克和插图作者托尼。我们的工作，是让《可怕的科学》的读者——全世界成百上千万的青少年雀跃。现在，我们要写一本关于低碳主题的图书《可怕的科学·中国特辑》（书名暂定），非常期待你的帮助。

中国，我们都拜访过三次了，去过学校，进过图书馆，到过书店，每一次，都在为《可怕的科学》做演讲。对于未来，低碳计划、低碳行动是刻不容缓的事情。低碳意味着让世界每一个角落减少污染，更合理地利用资源，拥有更宜人的天气。我们的后代将是最大的受益者。

科学，可不仅仅是课堂上学习的那些知识，它其实无处不在，而低碳科学关乎到拯救整个世界。换句话说，要热爱科学、热爱生活、热爱我们的家园。

这本书太重要了，希望全中国所有青少年都来读一读。它会非常好玩，非常好看，我们需要你的帮助，来完成这件有意义的事情。我们想知道你所感兴趣的低碳话题，或者，把你所知道的关于低碳的奇闻趣事告诉我们。我们还想知道，你有什么好主意可以让这本书更有趣，更好玩。

非常高兴北京少年儿童出版社邀请我们来创作这本书，也非常高兴会有“科学小英才“帮助我们来完成这本书。在过去那么多年里，我们创作《可怕的科学》时，发生了好多有趣的事，我们知道，有了你的加入，这本书的创作过程更会充满乐趣。现在，就剩一句要说的啦：欢迎加入到我们的团队！
