‘PRINCIPAL MATTERS’

Invitation to submit a short  article to ‘Principal Matters: Journal for Secondary School Leaders in Australia’

Next article submission deadline: February 2007

Dear Education Colleagues,

‘Principal Matters’ is a quarterly professional development paper-based journal for Australian secondary school leaders. Articles in ‘Principal Matters’ centre on issues, trends, debates, reforms, research and developments in secondary education (at the school, district, regional, national, State/Territory and international levels) that impact on schools and the work of practising school leaders.  Articles on school leadership written by school leaders are especially valued. However, the editorial board also warmly welcomes articles of interest to school leaders that are written by other educators, education policy makers and education researchers from Australia, and all countries.

We are writing to you to ask if you are able to provide an article outlining new polices and programs, legislation, trends, developments, research and education debates in your own country, State, Territory or locality that may be relevant, and of professional interest, to school leaders in Australia. The editorial board is seeking short articles (500-2,500 words) and photos for forthcoming issues of the journal.

Your own topic, based on your own area of interest/expertise (and keeping in mind current issues, trends, debates, reforms, research and developments in education and educational leadership) is most welcome.

Your target audience is, of course, practising secondary school leaders throughout the Australasian region. If you are not an Australian writer, some background information about your country’s education system and/or your school may be necessary at the beginning of your article.  Any recommendations you might make to school leaders, based on your experience, knowledge or research would be most appreciated.

Articles should be emailed directly to me (as attached Word files or as plain email messages) at: brydon@cybertext.net.au

Please do not format your article (e.g., columns, borders, etc.). Tables or graphs should not be included but should be explained as text. Acronyms should be spelled out in full the first time they are used, for the benefit of interstate or overseas readers. Only short reference lists can be included (Vancouver referencing system preferred) and footnotes will not be published. Photos, to accompany articles, are especially welcome and should be sent at the same time as the article (as a separate attachment to the text). They should not be embedded in the article itself but emailed separately, as attached JPEG files, saved at the highest possible resolution. Once submitted, articles will be reviewed by the editorial board for possible publication in a forthcoming issue. Once selected, articles may be edited for length, clarity, preferred grammatical style, spelling and title/subtitle suitability (please keep main titles reasonably short – eight words maximum).

Prospective writers who wish to discuss a possible topic, or who would like to review a sample copy of ‘Principal Matters’ before commencing writing, should email me with their request, including their full postal address. Otherwise, completed articles can be emailed directly to me and their receipt will be confirmed by return email.

Thank you for considering this invitation. I look forward to your response.

Best wishes,

Debra J. Brydon

Executive Editor
