The Department of World Languages and Literatures at
Pacific University invites applications for
Two-thirds-time Chinese Professor, one-year position, begins August
2010, Pacific University, Forest Grove, OR. Masters required; PhD
preferred. Teaching experience
preferred.
The primary responsibility is teaching 2 classes per semester,
beginning and intermediate levels of Chinese language and culture.
The next academic year is the preparation time for a new
tenure-track position in Asian Studies or Chinese Studies starting
fall 2011, and the selected candidate is expected to promote
interest in Chinese language and culture on campus. The candidate
is also responsible for supervising Chinese Club activities and
participating in on-campus events related to the World Languages
and Literatures Department, such as the annual Around the World
cultural food festival in the fall semester and the Asian Day
festival in the spring semester.
Forest Grove, Oregon, is located about 25 miles (40 km) west of
Portland and 50 miles (80 km) from the Pacific coast. The town has
a population of approximately 20,000, and the surrounding area is
quite rural. Access to Portland and the metropolitan area is
available through the bus, Pacific University Shuttle and MAX
light-rail system.

for the position of Assistant/Associate Professor of Chinese
Language (Mandarin) and Business Administration, jointly held in
the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures and the
Division of Business Administration, which includes all traditional
academic fields. The specific field of specialization in Business
Administration is flexible. The successful candidate will
preferably possess a doctoral degree in either discipline (Master’s
degree and ABD considered), be fluent in both Mandarin and English
and will have experience teaching U.S. students. The ability to
teach Chinese as a second language is essential. The successful

Across the Curriculum program aimed at helping students understand

Mandarin

teaching Mandarin to English-speaking students at the secondary

departmental, committee, and general school responsibilities.
