高燕定：Welcome to Yanding US-China Education. First of all, I would like to extend a warm welcome to our distinguished guests from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Joining us today are Mr. William Walker, Vice President of Strategic Communications and External Relations, Dr. Wei Zhao, Dean of School of Science, and Miss. Dawn Chen, International Advancement Director.

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, known as RPI, was established in New York in 1824. As the first technological university in the English-speaking world, RPI has a notable reputation in the world of higher education. RPI’s slogan is “why not change the world?” With its alumni including the inventor of television, an astronaut and prime command pilot of Apollo 13, and the inventor of network e-mail, RPI has changed the world and our lifestyles completely.

高燕定： Mr. Walker, we know that RPI is ranked among the top 50 American universities.  But not many people in China know that RPI is the oldest technological university in the United States, even older than MIT.  Could you please tell us what has made RPI excellent? and how is it different from MIT and Stanford?

主持人伊凡： We know that RPI was selected as one of the “25 New Ivies” in the U.S.. Most of us know the Ivy Leagues but are not familiar with the New Ivies. Could you please tell us more about the New Ivies?

高燕定：赵博士，RPI在理工科方面有很高的声誉，我也了解到美国《商业周刊》对RPI的管理学院也有很高的排名，是否请您给我们介绍一下有关你们管理学院的项目？

高燕定：赵伟博士，据我所知，你们学校的大学本科教育是非常独特的。学生一进入大学就可以开始参与研究工作，很多学生甚至在大学本科期间都取得了很大的研究成果，请您给我们介绍一下你们的本科生研究计划?大学生在入学以前和入学以后时是怎样申请参加这些研究计划的？ RPI一直强调学生的探索精神, 请您谈谈探索精神对于理工科学生的意义，请你结合个人的经历谈谈探索精神是怎样培养起来的？

主持人伊凡：Mr.Walker, We noticed from the RPI web site the tag line “Why not change the world ?”  It demonstrates the confidence and ambition of RPI. In its 184 years of history, what kind of leaders has RPI created?

高燕定：请问陈老师，RPI历史悠久，有很多非常杰出的校友，你们在美国之外有没有建立起校友的联络网？你们的校友一定遍布世界各地，你们有多少在海外的国际校友？他们是怎么通过校友的网络获益的？申请贵校的学生怎样才可以联系到你们的校友并且获得他们的指导和帮助？

主持人伊凡：请问赵伟博士，你们学校很强调学生的创造力。那么，对于英文非母语的中国学生来说，你们在录取学生的时候，对他们的托福和SAT成绩有没有一定的要求，比如说有没有最低分数线？你们会不会招收没有SAT成绩的学生？

高燕定：请问赵伟博士，对于录取本科生和研究生在要求上肯定是有区别的，主要的区别在哪里？研究生有最低托福和GRE成绩的要求吗？招收研究生的主要条件是什么？你在招收研究生的时候主要考虑的是什么？

主持人伊凡：Mr. Walker, we know that RPI is a place where you can dream big dreams, and can make those dreams become reality. Would you please share with us your new dreams for the new century?

主持人伊凡：Mr. Walker, do you have any expectation and advices for Chinese applicants?

主持人伊凡：：赵伟博士，请问申请论文也就是个人陈述在申请过程中间是不是非常重要的因素？你们希望在个人陈述中看到什么东西？有哪些因素是决定录取的最重要的因素？

主持人伊凡：请问陈老师，贵校对国际学生会不会提供奖学金？那些奖学金是对本科生还是研究生？什么样的外国学生才符合申请奖学金的要求？除了GPA和标准化考试成绩以外，有那些因素是申请奖学金的重要因素？

高燕定：请问赵伟博士，RPI大学有什么特别的硬件设施和条件将会吸引全世界的优秀教授和学生到贵校去？

高燕定：Mr. Walker, RPI has contributed greatly to space exploration and the Apollo Project.  Would you please elaborate a bit?
