The holiday of 11 days is over, I will return to work tomorrow. Looking back to this Spring Festival, I have to say that it is so boring and tiresome! Why do we lack the excitement? What is the real reason?

During the Spring Festival I stayed at home all day and night. Why don’t we go out for fun? Firstly let’s talk about the food. I remember that the most exciting thing in Spring Festival is that we can eat delicious food in our childhood, but now we can have all the delicious food every day. For instance we used to have dumplings in Spring Festival, but we can eat it every day now. Besides dumpling, other food such as pork chops, fish, shrimp, crab, lamb, beef isn’t all rare now.

One of the largest changes in this Spring Festival is that we can set off firecrackers in Beijing, which undoubtedly can increase the happiness and joys during Spring Festival. However, most of Beijingers have such habits to set off firecrackers, because firecrackers are prohibited by authorities for more than 13 years in Beijing. Furthermore , firecrackers are so expensive that few people can afford to buy them. I think the government allow people to set off firecrackers in order to stimulate consumption and increase economic growth, but noises, dangerous casualties and environmental pollution are also noticeable aftereffects.

Temple fairs are another places that people can go for fun in Spring Festival. There are indeed a lot of kinds of temple fairs, some of which are traditional ones such as dragon lake temple fair, some of which are western-style ones such as Shijingshan Amusement Park and Chaoyang Park. However there are also too many issues about temple fairs, the characteristic snacks in temple fairs are not too clean and there usually are huge numbers of people who crowded together.

For me, Spring Festival is just like another ordinary holiday, and I can use the valuable time to relax and unwind at home. A latest survey shows that more than 70 percent respondents didn’t enjoy Spring Festival. So many people have similar opinions with me! As fast-paced society accelerates, we prefer to stay at home calmly in Spring Festival. Another reason why people lack excitement to Spring Festival is that few numbers of people don’t understand the traditional culture Spring Festival implies. For instance Spring Festival is the day that people farewell the past and usher in the bright future, people set off firecrackers, put up Spring Festival couplets, wear red clothes and hang red lanterns just in order to dispel evils and pray for good luck. Modern living pace leads us to have no time to understand and enjoy the culture, even some traditions and culture are dying.

Yesterday I was shocked by the speech of Lang Xianping in Tsinghua university. Are our reforms successful? Although our incomes are increased dramatically now than in the past, why aren’t we still happy? Why don’t we spend money but save in the bank? Why do we spend so much time even Spring Festival in studying?

Anyway new year represents new hope, this year is the year of the dog. A snowstorm hits Beijing yesterday, all the city is covered by white snow. As the proverb goes, snow implies good luck of next year, we hope our future are more bright and promising!
