首先，end up的意思是“经过某些过程或回合之后，最后在干什么、 到达哪里、得到什么结果等等”。

   为了便于说明，我把的用法分为两类：一类是后面跟动名词， 表示“最后在干什么”。 看下面的例子：

     The money ended up enriching the 15 local criminal organizations. 这笔钱最后肥了当地的15个犯罪集团。

     You could end up running this company if you play your cards right. 如果你牌出得对，最可能由你来经营这家公司。(play cards right 是指“应对，处理得当”）

      I don’t care if they end up flipping hamburgers or if they end up being President of the United States. 我不管他们最后是卖汉堡包还上最后做了美国总统 （一位老师在谈到他对学生一视同仁时如是说。又：flip hmaburgers 有点与中文中“翻烧饼”的意思差不多。 ）。

    If we impose a uniform food pattern on people, you we end up hurting many people. 如果我们强迫人们吃同一类型的食品，我们最后会伤害许多人。

     If the feds pull their money out in order to beef up security, we'd end up creating more problems than we solve. 如果联邦政府抽出资金以加强国家安全，我们最后造成问题比我们解决的问题还要多。

     You can end up paying as much to return an item as the purchase price of the item. 你可能最后花在上退货的费用与花在购买商品上的钱一样多。(谈网上购物）

   第二种用法是end up后面跟名词， 意思是“最后到达什么状态，情况， 地方等”。 需要注意的是跟名词时后面要接一个介词，用什么介词要根据后面的名词而定。例如：

       Most of the trash that Americans generate ends up in landfills. 美国人产生的垃圾最后都送到垃圾填埋场。 (四级阅读)

   The graveyard of the high-tech revolution is ending up in rural China. 高技术的坟场在中国的农村。 (六级阅读)

       The romance ends up in the fifth place. 这部爱情故事片最后获得第五名。

       So if you don’t have a pretty structured return policy, you will end up with a lot of problems. 如果你没有一个相当规范的退货规定，你最后会弄出许多问题。

       We ended up at a service station. 我们七转八转最后到了一家汽车修理站。

        If you keep pressing this button, you will end up with a blank screen. 如果你一直按这个键，最后就会出现一个空白屏幕。

        The second option is a low-growth, no-risk scenario for the next ten years, but you end up with a different sized business. 第二个方案是一个低成长，无风险的十年计划，但你最后搞出来的是个小公司。
