IPTV
An IPTV service (or technology) is the new convergence
service (or technology) of the telecommunication and broadcasting
through QoS controlled Broadband Convergence IP Network including
wire and wireless for the managed, controlled and secured delivery
of a considerable number of multimedia contents such as Video,
Audio, data and applications processed by platform to a customer
via Television, PDA, Cellular, and Mobile TV terminal with STB
module or similar device.
This general definition of IPTV includes four parts for
business role models. Each part is like this.

Contents: Video, audio (including voice), data, text, and
applications
- Business role model: contents provider.
- Business role model: contents provider.

Platform: Contents receiving, manipulating, value-added
processing, and transmitting with security and management according
to the service provider.
- Business role model: service provider.

Network: Managed, controlled, and secured delivery of
contents processed by platform using QoS controlled Broadband IP
Network including wire and wireless.
- Business role model: network provider.
- Business role model: network provider.

Terminal: TV, PDA, Cellular, Mobile TV with STB module or
similar device for the customer.
- Business role model: Customer.
- Business role model: Customer.
以上是2006年7月10-14号，在国际电信联盟IPTV热点工作组在日内瓦召开的第一次会议上确定了IPTV的官方定义。
由上文可见：IPTV
服务是包含了计算机、电视机、手机以及便携终端，融合了广播和通信技术，汇集了有线和无线IP网络的多媒体综合服务。
所有IP网络上的音视频多媒体服务都是 IPTV 服务！
视频播客、视频分享、视频搜索、P2P
Streaming、宽频门户、网络电视台、TPS、移动视频、手机电视都属于 IPTV
服务范畴。
IPTV其实就是新媒体的代名词
