由于前年到过这里，对嘉峪关关城有了比较相尽的游览，这次重点转了关城外围，走上次没有到过的地方。原来（今年早些时候）这一带还算是景区之内，现在景区入口改到关城口以后，这些地方已完全对外开放了，游客可以自由游览。

    从原来的景区大门走过，正对的就是九眼泉湖。当年冯胜的大军在这块土地上驻扎下来的时候，最先吸引他们的正是嘉峪山下的这处泉水。在这里隔水远望，嘉峪关关城横亘眼前：

    九眼泉湖，并非是有九个泉眼而得名。而是因为在单个数字中，“九”是最大的一个。“九”又与“久”谐音，故名九眼泉。取其泉眼众多、长流不息之意。九眼泉湖旁水草丰茂、景色宜人，是一个古代屯军养马、戍边防患的好地方。在经历了一系列历史变迁后，九眼泉湖曾一度枯竭，但后来在西部大开发环境改善下，九眼泉湖又再现了其昔日的丽影。在它的映衬下，嘉峪关关城显得更加雄伟、壮丽。

    九眼泉湖附近，也有不少前些年建造景观，以前是因处在景区里，游客往往是直奔关城去，这里少有人知晓及光顾，现在这些地方全开放了，市民与游客可以自由游览。
