作为古丝绸之路重镇之一，张掖临泽县借助丹霞景区品牌优势，深挖当地民俗文化资源，丰富业态扩展产业链，增强旅游支撑力，打造了丹霞口旅游度假小镇，为“丹霞奇观”这张名片“增色添彩”，也为全力创建张掖世界地质公园“增色添彩”。

    小镇以张掖民俗文化为灵魂，以历史真实故事为原型，融入现代化的表演方式，精心打造了三大主题情景式商业街和开城迎宾、彩楼招亲、西域秘境等主题氛围演艺活动，集中展现了张掖人民热情好客的民风民俗。遗憾的是在这里逗留的时间较短，没有机会欣赏。仅是浏览了小镇的南半街区，而影响最为深刻的是那随处可见、遍布墙体房头的藤蔓植物“爬山虎”，它在经历了秋霜之后，更加艳丽逼人：

    走出丹霞口旅游小镇的南门，公路对面，又是一片规模很大的花海，有紫色的马鞭草、黄色油菜花等多种花卉，也是因时间紧张，只能用手机匆匆一揽了（东面还有一大片也只有忽视了）：
