In the first step 32 teams qualify for the world cup.

Second step these 32 qualified teams are placed in groups of 4 teams that are lettered A-H.

Third step is for the teams in each group to play the other teams in their group.

Fourth Step is to qualify for the Knockout Round by winning or coming in second in each group based upon points from Wins, Draws and if tied in points then Goals Scored by the team is deciding factor.

If that is tied then the Goals scored against becomes deciding factor.

Knockout Round is played ( final 16 teams) until there is a winner. There are no draws once the Knockout Rounds start.

Winners of this stage of rounds go to quarter finals, winners of quarter finals go to semi-finals, the winners of that go to finals.

How ties are settled in the knockout rounds

 If a match is tied after 90 minutes, the two teams will play 30 minutes of extra time, separated into two 15-minute periods. In both periods, stoppage time will be calculated and added on, just like it is during the first and second halves.

 If the two teams are still tied after those 30 minutes, the tie will be settled by penalty kicks.

Penalties are best of five, and completed when one team is no longer mathematically able to beat the other in five rounds of penalties.

If the teams are tied after five rounds, they go to sudden death, where each team takes a penalty until one team scores and the other misses in the same round.
