木造像形成一定风格体系且现今能看到的最早在宋代，宋代官方木造像多有记载入册，且保存下来的屈指可数。宋代受佛教世俗化的影响，富于现实意味和个性特点，尤其在脸相的塑造。菩萨面形圆润，宽额丰颐，眼泡鼓起，从额头到鼻梁一般凹陷下去，呈一条明显的圆弧线，与当时现实中人物面相十分接近。

世界博物馆收藏的木造像，体型大，多来自皇家寺庙，特征明显，比较容易辨识，难辨识的为民间高古木造像，形式多变不统一。今天我们就把眼光聚集，感受几百上千年前菩萨的美妙神韵。
