马链球菌兽疫亚种（S.equi subsp. zooepidimicus） 旧称兽疫链球菌，常存在于皮肤、呼吸道、扁桃体及生殖道，可致各种家畜的炎症和败血症。其中以马最易感，引起子宫炎、流产或不孕症、牛的乳腺炎，对羊和猪及禽类可引起败血性链球菌病。自然康复后可形成免疫力，国内研制的链球菌弱毒苗有一定的免疫效果。
