例1：在机器中很多能量是由于部件之间的摩擦而损失的。

In a machine a great deal of energy is lost because of friction between its parts.（=…

because there is friction between its parts.）

例2：一到达火车站，他就发现家乡已经大大地变样了。

On arriving at the station，he found his hometown had greatly changed.（=As soon as he arrived at the station，……）

例3：他们参观那座教堂的目的是为了研究一下它的歌德式的建筑风格。

They visited that church for the purpose oflwith a view to making a study of its Gothic style of architecture.（= They visited that church so that they might make a study of its Gothic style of architecture.）

例4：由于装配线的采用使产量得到了提高，汽车价格大为下降。

With/Because of the increased prodution made possible by the assembly line，automobiles became much cheaper.（=Because the increase of production is made possible by the use of the assembly line，…）

例5：这房子尽管富丽堂皇，但是住起来一点也不舒服。

With all its mag nificence，the house is notat all comfortable to live in.（= Though the house is magni ficent，it is not at all comfortable to live in.）

例6：就我而论，我认为心理学并不是一种纯科学。

For my part，I don't think psychology is a pure science.（=So far as I am concerned，…）

例7：尽管这个问题既难又复杂，我们还是设法在几分钟之内就把它解决了。

In spite of its difficulty and complexity，we managed to solve the problem in a few minutes.（=Although the problem was both difficult and complex，we managed to solve it

（in a few minutes.）
