例1：这一章需要重写。

This chapter needs rewriting.（=This chapter needs to be rewritten.）

例2：这篇论文值得一读。

This thesis is worth reading.

例3：许多原始部落的住所十分简陋，几乎不能叫做房子。

The dwellings of many primitive tribes are very simple and crude，hardly deserving the name of"house'.

例4：这个摘要读起来像一篇小品文。

This abstract reads like an essay.

例5：干柴容易燃烧。

Dry wood burns easily.

例6：鸡蛋正在电炉上煮着。

Eggs are cooking on the electric stovc.

例7：那本小说很畅销。

That novel sells very well.

这扇窗子打不开。

此外有些被动句子可以通过词汇手段将其译成主动形式。如：

例1：那些古代城市的名字早已被人遗忘了。

The names of those ancient cities have long passed intoo blivion.（比较：~have been forgotten.）

例2：由于好些字母已被磨损，招牌已经看不清楚了。

The sign was no longer legible because much of the lettering had worn away.（比较：The sign could no longer be read easily because.）

例3：许多星星用肉眼是看不见的。

Many stars are invisible to the naked eye.

（比较：Many stars are not seen with the naked eye.）

例4：9可以被3除尽。

9 is divisible by 3.（比较：9 can be divided by 3 without remainder.）
