《圣经·旧约·传道书》

引 言

东方有《道德经》，西方有《传道书》。两书篇幅相当，所传之道不同。前者传的，是天地万物之道，充满哲学意味；后者传的，是人世生活之道。它的人生观消极，但不乏智慧，正所谓：我心里寻思，放纵酒色，却又心谙智慧；守住愚昧，直到我看清，普天之下，什么对世人有益，他们当终身为之。

I sought in mine heart to give myself unto wine, yet acquainting mine heart with wisdom；and to lay hold on folly, till I might see what was that good for the sons of men, which they should do under the heaven all the days of their life. （2:3）

当然，它也不乏至理名言，如：神使万物，各按其时，成为美好。又将世界，安置在世人心里。结果，人自始至终，不能参透神的作为。

He hath made every thing beautiful in his time；also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end.（3:11）

叹为观止的是，末章，居然有比兴写法：而且，当人怕高，恐惧挡在路上，杏树白花如盖，蚱蜢拖着腿脚（比兴，老年病态），所愿（活下去）失败了；因为人，归他永远的家，吊丧的，走在街上；

Also when they shall be afraid of that which is high, and fears shall be in the way, and the almond tree shall flourish, and the grasshopper shall be a burden, and desire shall fail；because man goeth to his long home, and the mourners go about the streets；（12:5）

笔者从英文翻译，底本是《钦定本》。相信英人原文水平，高于汉人。但个别词句，取于中文，如“精神烦恼”（ vexation of spirit），用“捕风”，相信也许原文是“捕风”，《和合本》翻译底本就是“a striving after wind”（捕风）。

翻译追求，除了句意，重在语言节奏。《道德经》，是没有音韵语词的《诗经》，节奏是：四言为主，六言为辅，一、二、三、四、五、六、七，止于八，过八者鲜，上限在十四言。我想用《道德经》的节奏，来翻译《传道书》。愿有读者知音。
