王安石(1021-1086)字介甫、半山，号半山老人，抚州临川(今属江西)人。北宋著名的政治家、文学家和思想家。苏东坡称其书“无法之法，然不可学”。米芾说他学杨凝式，黄山谷说“比来士大夫，惟荆公有古人气质，而不端正，然笔间甚遒”。

对于王安石的书法渊源，还有另一些说法，归纳起来，约有下列几点:一是王安石的书法由笔底自然生发，多率意而作;二是像晋宋间人的笔墨，风度俊逸，飘飘不凡，格调很高;三是在书法渊源上众说纷纭，难究其根。

《行书楞严经旨要卷》为王安石去世前一年亲自校正楞严经卷文字。自署"余归钟山，道原假楞严本，手自校正，刻之寺中，时元丰八年(1085)四月十一日临川王安石稽首敬书"。作者时年六十五岁。卷后有南宋牟献之，元王蒙，明项元汴、周诗题跋。曾经元陈惟寅，明项元汴、曹溶鉴藏。
