时维五月，庚子年夏。大疫将去，华灯初上。余之论文即将付梓。青灯凭栏，淡烟流云望舒空。倚风临窗，拙论新成忧思中。流光逝，追忆声里，一曲往事至。光阴易逝催人老，浮生似水笑沧桑。回首学路，昔之来者，鲜衣怒马，少年壮志闯天涯。今将去者，褐面华发，此心安处即为家。春秋四度，白驹过隙。谨以拙文叙学路之事，感师朋亲友之恩。
余生于鄂南，布衣世家。幼时向学，天资不聪，根器不敏。恶读书，喜狗马。是时，举村皆贫，余家犹甚。上人憎，下人厌。粥饭不易，物力维艰。思食不可充其饥，思衣不可华其体。常食不果腹，短褐穿结。致身体羸弱，精神恍惚。穷冬寒风，足肤皲裂。酷暑炎日，创伤遍身。其间数度遇劫，幸得祖上荫庇，每每化险为夷。人情冷暖感于内，世态炎凉见于外。
志学之年，倍感生活不易，终觉此生有归。忽然心有所悟，方通认知之教。知识智慧生动有趣，自然社会微妙深远。不能浑浑以终年岁，噩噩以度春秋。生如蝼蚁，当有鸿鹄之志。命运坎坷，亦怀不屈之心。为山者，基于一篑之土，可成千
