    阅读是培养学生的英语应用能力的一种重要形式，它和写作一样属于书面能力。阅读要求的是理解和领悟能力，写作要求的是运用和表达能力。读和写的关系相当密切，互为促进。只有通过阅读的逐步领会，才能转化为写作的正确表达。现在初中英语毕业、升学考试遵循《新课标》要求,将阅读理解中的文章由三篇增加到四篇,并且注重考查学生对信息的获取和处理能力,强调多学科知识的贯通;注重培养学生的语篇分析能力、判断能力以及根据寓意进行逻辑推理的能力,这对学生在考试中的阅读速度和阅读的效益都提出了新的要求:即要求学生提高其阅读速度,增加其阅读量和扩大其词汇量等。英语试卷中的书面表达，目的在于考察考生如何用英语书面表达思想、交流感情和信息，同时也考察考生与他人交际的能力。但是由于种种原因，学生的英语写作能力不是很理想。例如一道15分的作文，学生的平均得分一般在9分左右。因此如何提高学生的语言运用能力，就成为我们当前进行教育教学改革，适应新时代的教育要求，全面提高教学质量，进一步推进素质教育必须解决的问题
