China Baotou Bank’s downfall.

Yesterday, this mid-sized bank was placed under receivership by the People’s Bank of China/CBIRC, citing “serious credit risks”. The event sent a chill down my spine.

As debt collectors, perhaps we should not have been surprised. We are in the kitchen, after all, helping the banks collect unpaid credit card debts.

Baotou Bank had a total asset of 570 billion yuan as of Q2 2017.

Debt collection isn’t glamorous. But as plumbers often say, “someone has to do it”.
