陨石

陨石也称陨星,是地球以外脱离原有运行轨道的宇宙流星或尘碎块飞快散落到地球或其它行星表面的未燃尽的石质、铁质或是石铁混合的物质。

· 熔坑:陨石表面都布有大小不一、深浅不等的凹坑,即熔蚀坑。不少陨石还具有浅而长条形气印,可能是低熔点矿物脱落留下的。

· 熔壳:陨石在经过大气层时,极高的温度导致陨石表面熔融,产生了一层微米至毫米级别玻璃质层,这就是熔壳。当陨石在地表存在较长时间后,其熔壳易被风化而消失掉。

· 比重:陨石因为含铁镍比重较大,铁陨石比重可达8,石陨石也因常含20铁镍,比一般岩石比重也大些。但是,存在极少量的石质陨石(如碳质球粒陨石等)因不含或金属含量极低,其密度与一般地球岩石相似。

 

 

· 磁性:各种陨石因含有铁而具强度不等的磁性。经风化的陨石没有磁性,因而也就不算陨石了。

· 条痕:陨石在无釉瓷板上摩擦一般没有条痕或仅有浅灰色条痕,而铁矿石的条痕则是黑色或棕红色,以此加以区别。
