清状元王仁堪楷书《千字文》

王仁堪，清代，（1848―1893）字可庄，又字忍菴，号公定，闽县（今福州）人。光绪三年（一八七七）第一名进士，状元。授殿撰，官苏州知府。善设色花卉。书宗欧、褚，名称一时，卒年四十六。

有清一代，福州出过两个状元；前一个是林鸿年，后一个就是王仁堪。他虽然官不过知府，寿不满五十，但他的品德、政声、文章、书法都名重一时。从历史上看，一般认为封建时代的状元，多数是少有建树的平庸之辈，真才不多，人品未必好。但是王仁堪这个状元确是品学俱优，名副其实，他立朝直谏敢言，出任地方官后，也能为人民做好事，是值得称道的。

王仁堪生前所作诗文，均由其子收入《王苏州遗书》，其中《惜阴赋》和《志不在温饱赋》最为后人所传诵。他的大小楷书法极佳，为世所珍，所作《千字文》帖，向为学书者的临摹范本。
