    Chapter one ---Intorduction
Wuthering Heights, the great novel by Emily Bronte, though not inordinately long is an amalgamation of childhood fantasies, friendlyship,,romance and revenge .But this story is not a simple story of revenge,it has more profound implications .As Arnold kettle, the English critic said ,"Wuthering Heights is an expression in the imaginative terms of art of the stresses and tensions and complicts, personal and spiritual of nineteen century capitalist society ."The characters of Wuthering Heights embody the extreme love and extreme hate mix together make the novel take on the thick dramatic colour.Love and hate is one of the conflicts in Wuthering Heights.Hate can't make the love disappear, love is stronger than hate. This is theme of the novel.
Emily Bronte, one of the Bronte sisters ,The author finished this novel in 1847 ,After that ,Emily died soon in 1848 at age thirty. In the nineteen century Wuthering Heights become as classical novel .
The novel occured in England around 1760 and the story takes place in the main settings,Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross Grange, both situated on the harsh and desolate moors of Yorkshire ,Emily Bronte actually grew up and lived in this place ,and so her despiction of it is very accurate ,and she uses her knowledge to emphasize the moods and attitudes of the characters .The people of these two house differ from each other .The people from the Wuthering Heights such as Heathcliff are generally angry, ill tempered ,vengeful, and often immoral,These attitudes are clearly reflected through the large, cold and dark house situated on top of a ruthless hill on the moors,Thrushcross Grange is  a more cultivated, calm house ,situated in a valley of the moors. Its inhabitants including EdgarLinton ,are generally more refined, with more morals Wuthering Heights.
Chapter Two------Character list
Heathcliff
An orphan brought to live at Wathering Heights by Mr Earnshaw, Heathcliff falls into an intense, unbreakable love with Mr Earnshaw's daughter Catherine. After Mr Earmshaw dies, his resentful son Hindley abuses Heathcliff and treats him as a servant.Because of herdesire for social prominence,Catherine marries Edgar Linton instead of Heathcliff's humiliation and misery prompt him to spend most of the rest of his life seeking revenge on Hindly, his beloved Catherine and their respective children.A often cruel man,Heacliff acquires a fortune andused his extraordinary powers of will to acqire both Wuthering H eights and thrushcross Grange, the estate of Edgar Linton.
 Catherine.
The daughter ofMr Earnshaw and his wife,Catherine falls in love with Heathcliff, the orphan Mr Earnshaw brings home,Catherine loves Heathcliff so intensely that she claims they are the same person. However, her desire for social advancement motivates her to marry Edgar Linton instead,Catherine is free-spirited,beautiful ,spoiled, and often arrogant. She is given to fit of temper, and she is torn between her wild passion for Heathcliff and her social ambition, she brings misery to both of the men who love her.
       Hindly Earnshaw
Catherine's brother, and Mr Earnshaw'son, Hindly resents it when heathcliff is brought to live at Wuthering Heights. After his father dies and he inherits the estate,Hindly begins to abuse the young Heathcliff, terminating his education and forcing him to work in the fields .When Hindly's wife France dies shortly after giving birth to their son Haraton, he lapses into alcoholism and dissipation.
       Mr Earnshaw
Catherine and Hindly's father ,Mr Earnshaw adopts Heathcliff and brings him to live at Wuthering Heights.Mr Earnshaw prefers Heathcliff to Hindly, but nevertheless bequeaths Wuthering Heights to Hindly when he dies .
        Chapter three---Love
At first, the Earnshaw children-a boy named Hindly and his daughter Catherine-detest the dark skinned Heathcliff. But Catherine quickly comes to love him,and the two soon grow inseparable ,spending their days playing on the moors. However, Hindly still dislikes Heathcliff and makes effort to insult him, thus Mr Earnshaw, who prefers Heathcliff to his own son, sending Hindly away to college after his wife'death, keeping Heathcliff neaby.
In the meantime ,Catherine is becoming so enchanting and charming that she looks like a beautiful lady. Everyone is happy with her, and Heathcliff is willing to do anything for her any time or in any circumstances, he looks at her as if she were a princess. On the other hand,Catherine love Heathcliff so much that she claims they are the same person, no matter what happens she doesn't want to be separated from Heathcliff.
Three years later, Mr Earnshaw dies ,and Hindly inherits Wuthering Heights. He returns with a wife,Frances, and immediately seeks revenge on Heathcliff , once an orphan, later a pampered and favored son, Heathcliff now finds himself treated as a common laborer, forced to work in the fields, Apart from that, Hindly frequently looks for excuses to maltreat him. While Heathcliff doesn't care about his sufferings and sorrows, so long as he can continue his close relationgship with Catherine.
         Chapter four---Hate
One day, Heathcliff and Catherine made the trip to Thrushcross Grange to spy on and tease Edgar and Isabella Linton, Mr Linton's children. Before they could succeed in their mission, Skulker, the Linton's gourd dog ,took them by surprise and chased them, biting Catherine's ankle. Unable to return home, Catherine was taken inside Thrushcross Grange by a servant, however, the Lintons, repelled by Heathcliff's rough appearance. After Hindly knew the matter, he furiously told Heathcliff that he may no further contact with his sister.
Catherine spends five weeks recuperating at the Grange, Mr Linton determines to transform the girl into a young lady and spends her time educating Catherine in manners and social graces.Catherine returns to Wuthering Heights , wearing a lovely dress.Hindly says that Heathcliff has to greet Catherine "like other  servants",and when he does so,Catherine says he is dirty in comparison with the Linton children. Heathcliff's feelings are wounded. When he complains the amount of time she spends with Edgar, she retorts that Heathcliff is ignorant and dull. What's worse, Heathcliff listers to the conversation of Nelly anf Catherine by accident, he hears therine said that she can not marry him because Hindley has cast him down so slow, to marry him now would be to degrade kerself, and she insists that she must marry Edgar Linton. Heathcliff with draws in a rage of shame, Humiliation, and despair.
Heathcliff's emotional turmoil is due in part to his ambiguous class status, inevitably, the unbridgeable gap in Catherine's and Heathcliff's social positions causes that they can not be together.
Chapter 5--- Revenge
Several years later, Heathcliff come back, surprising all the people, He has grown into a polished, gentle marrly, and physically impressive man ,As soon as he returns. He immediately sets about seeking revenging on all who have hurt him.Heathcliff come into a vast and mysterious wealth , he lends money to the drunken Hindley,
Knowing that Hindley will increase his debts, when Hindley dies Heathcliff inherits the Wuthering Heights .He also want to inherit Thrushcross Grange by marrying Isabella Linton, whom he treats very badly.Catherine becomes ill, gives birth to a daughter and diea soon ,Afterwards,Isabella flees to London and gives birth to Heathcliff's son, named Linton after her family ,when she dies,Linton comes to live with Heathcliff. Heathcliff treats his sickly son more cruelly than he treated the bou's mother.
One day ,as Edgar Linton grews ill and hears Catherine back to Wuthering Heights. Soon after the marriage ,Edgar dies, and his death is quickly followed by the death of Linton,Heathcliff now controls both Wuthering Heights and Thrashcross Grange. He forces Catherine to live at Wuthering Heights and act as a common servant.
In some sense, he plays both roles,He certainly behaves cruelly and harmfully toward many of the other characters , because he does so out of the pain of his love for Catherine ,and he never loses people's sympathe.
Chapter 6---Humanity
At breakfast the morning after Catherine gives Hareton the book ,she and Heathcliff become embroiled in an argument over her inheritance and her relationship with Hareton, Heathcliff seizes her and nearly strikes her, but looking into her face, he suddenly lets her go---apparently having seen something in her eyes that reminds him of her mother. In fact, Heathcliff has said to Ellen that he no longer has the desire to carry out his revenge on young Catherine,he is not interested in life and don't care any about Hareton and the girl, he wishes he could be with Catherine, that is all he has wanted .
At first ,Hareton and Catherine quarrel, but they finally make up and agree to get along . The two people have gradually grow to love and trust each other.
As time passes, Heathcliff become more and more solitary and begins to eat less and less, eventually taking only one meal a day ,and one day Ellen finds him dead and realizes his burial wishes. However , soon the country people are saying that Heathcliff still walks around the moors ,he is always with Catherine Earnshaw , they are finally together. Soon later , the young Catherine and Hareton marry and wed on New Year's Day and move to Thrushcross Grange. Joined through their living bond , the two estates will become a heaven of hope ,warmth , joy .Meanwhile, Heathcliff's humanity comes back at last.
