时间连词before、after与since)
5. 时间连词 till/until与once
Wait till I call you.
Please wait until I arrived.
I’ll wait till/until they arrive.
We’re open till/until 6 o’clock.
The exhibition continues until/till 25 July.
Bake until/till the pastry is golden and crisp.
Until he recovered he was given treatment and cared for.
Until you told me, I had heard nothing of what happened.
She waited until/till I returned.
I’ll wait here until/till the rain stops.
Most men worked until/till they’re 65.
He waited until she was about to leave.
We all held our breath till the bomb burst.
I worked until
he came back.
I didn’t work until he came back.
They walked till/until it was dark.
They didn’t walk till/until it was dark.
I did not begin to work till he had gone.
I didn’t manage to do it until you had explained how.
She didn’t go to bed till/until myher father came back.
We didn’ discuss the problem until he came back.
His mother didn’t leave until/till he was asleep.
You can’t go home until/till you finish your work.
Xiao Ming didn’t leave home till/until his father came back.
It was not until the meeting was over that he began to teach me English.
He didn’t wait until/till I returned.
She didn’t sleep until/till I returned.
⑤until/till在包括含never、nobody、no、nothing、hardly等否定词的肯定形式句中,一般也译为“直到…
We’ll never give up until the goal is reached.
Nobody can leave until/till the meeting is over.
No one could do anything about this until Indra was born.
I'll do nothing until I hear from you, at any rate.
I could hardly wait until New Year ’'s Day to try them out.
⑥Not until…
Not until next week will the sports meet be held.
Not until the teacher came in did the students stop talking.
Not until the middle of April did she finally find a companion.
Not until the early years of the 19th century did man know what heat is.
Not until I began to work did I realize how much time I had wasted.
⑦It is/was not until+名词词组/主谓结构+that-clause.——这是强调结构句,意表 “直到…
例:It is not until next week that the sports meet will be held.
It was not until the teacher came in that the students stopped talking.
It was not until I began to work that I realized how much time I had wasted.
特别提示:关于till/until的其它。
The ball bounced twice before he could reach it.
We had to wait almost an hour before he condescended to see us.
例:I slept until midnight.
She didn’t
arrive until 6
o’clock.
例:—Until when are you staying?
—Until next Monday.
⑵巧辨before和until
I worked until he came back.
I worked before he came back.
I will wait until/before he comes to my help.
I shall stay here until/before you come back.
I’ll stick it out here until/before they are back.
He lived with his parents until/before he graduated from school.
But do not open it until/before you get back home.
The children won’t come back until/before it is dark.
We did not start until/before the sun rose in the east.
The noise of the street didn’t stop until/before it was midnight.
A message did not arrive in the queue before/until the time-out expired.
I didn’t leave the lovely boy until/before his mother came home.
We arrived
there before it atarted to rain.
He almost knocked me down before he saw me.
The holiday came to the end befor I knew
it.
He fell asleep before I could take off his clothes.
We had sailed for two days before we saw the
land.
The fire lasted about four hours before the firefighters could countrol it.
It was three months before they met again.
It was midnight before my brother came home.
It was quite some time before he found the elephant at all.
We had walked a long way
before we found some water.
He was tackled before he had a chance to shoot.
He was found out before he could carry out his plan.
We can leave early in the morning before it gets too hot.
Charles was at bat only a short time before he struck out.
Before he reaches the top, he is already sweating and panting.
The lawbreaker was
overpowered
倒不如…”,不用until而用before,与would或will连用而隐含比较。
例:He will die of hunger before he will steal.
He would fight to death before he surrendered.
He would die before he would betray his country.
I would give up my job before I’d agree to be dismissed.
a). It was not long before…——“不久/没过多久/不久之后”
例:It was not long before his anger melted.
It was not long
before
It was not long
before
It was not long
before
It was not long before the news was widely circulated.
It was not long
before
It was not long
before
b). It will probably not be long before…——“不久”
例:It will not be long before Father returns.
It will not be long before oats come in.
It will not be long before we know the truth.
It will not be long before we meet again.
It was not long
before
I worked until/before she left here.
I didn’t work until she left here.
We discussed the problem until/before he came back.
We didn’t discuss the problem until he came back.
It was not until he came that I left.
It was not until he was thirty that he started to paint.
It was not until he told me that I knew it.
It was not until he finished his homework that he went home.
It was not until he went abroad that he know the truth of the fact.
You will like her once you get to know her.
Your feet will soon warm up once you get indoors.

Once you get into a bad habit, you’ll find it hard to get out of it.
Once you understand the rules of the game, you will enjoy it.
Once he makes up his mind to do something, no one can hold
him back.
Once (you) begin, you should go on.
Once (he) opens his mouth, he never stops.
Once (you are) aboard, you will be secure.
Once (you are) unemployed, you are done for.
Once (it is) printed, the book will be very popular. 【从句含it be】
Once (it was) helped by the teacher, I’ll make rapid progress.
The reseach is so designed that once (it was) begun nothing can be done to change it
