Christina Rossetti(克里斯蒂娜·罗塞蒂,1830-1894)是英国诗人,写了题材和体裁多样的浪漫的、虔诚的以及写给儿童的诗歌。
Remember By Christina Rossetti REMEMBER me when I am gone away, Gone far away into the silent land; When you can no more hold me by the hand, Nor I half turn to go, yet turning stay. Remember me when no more day by day You tell me of our future that you plann'd: Only remember me; you understand It will be late to counsel then or pray. Yet if you should forget me for a while And afterwards remember, do not grieve: For if the darkness and corruption leave A vestige of the thoughts that once I had, Better by far you should forget and smile Than that you should remember and be sad. |

不在这里,在远方,寂静的田园;

What does Remember by Christina Rossetti mean?
The poem "Remember" was written by Christina Rossetti---
an English poet. It is a sonnet with 14 lines and has a rhyme
scheme of a b b a a b b a and c d d e c e. "Remember" is about a
woman (the narrator) who knows her death is imminent. It gives the
reader visual images of someone speaking to their loved ones on
their death bed. During the first eight lines she expresses her
longing to always be remembered. In the last six lines, the
narrator completely changes her mind because she realises that
remembering her may cause the person she loves (the person she is
addressing in this poem) grief. As a result, she decides that she
would rather be forgotten so he can be happy.
In the first line the poet begins with the words "Remember me when
I am gone away", showing her desire to never be forgotten. The idea
of separation is also introduced. The pain of her separating from
her loved one is stressed when she tells him that he will not be
able to "hold [her] by the hand" or even experience the "future
that [he] plann'd" for them. Furthermore, from the fourth
line---"Nor I half turn to go, yet turning stay", one can tell that
the narrator is uncertain whether she loves this person or
not.
Later on in the poem the narrator finally realises that if he
remembers her then he might "remember and be sad". Although she
wants to be remembered, she does not want him to grieve. She
decides that it would be "better by far" that he should "forget and
smile"---be happy without memories of her---rather than "remember
and be sad". This poem is particularly memorable because it is
about a woman that is selfless enough to advice her family to smile
instead of grieving from her memories.
