丹佛位于美丽的科罗拉多州，为州内首府，也是州内最大的城市。既是首府又是最大城市这一点在其他州并非寻常。丹佛又有mile high
city的别名意为这个城市海拔恰好为一英里。
这个被山水环绕的高原城市建立于1858年，虽然并非美国最有历史的城市，但凭借四季如春的气候和雄伟壮阔落基山美景一直吸引着世界各地的山地冒险家，滑雪爱好者和户外跋涉爱好者等等。
当今的Denver是美国第23大人口城市，也是科罗拉多州政治经济文化的中心。值得一提的是科罗拉多州最棒的公立大学并非位于丹佛而位于伯德市。个人认为丹佛非常适合老年人和热爱大自然的人居住，民风淳朴市民朴素。城市外来移民稀少，本土市民偏于保守，你在城铁上说汉语会有很多白人老年人向你投来好奇的目光。

The City and County of
Denver (/ˈdɛnvər/; Arapaho:

the largest city and the capital of the U.S.
state of Colorado. Denver is also the second most populous
county in Colorado after El Paso County. Denver is
a consolidated city and
county located in
the South Platte River
Valley on the western edge of
the High Plains just
east of the Front Range of
the Rocky Mountains. The Denver downtown district
is located immediately east of the confluence
of Cherry Creek with
the South Platte River, approximately 12 miles
(19 km) east of the foothills of the Rocky Mountains.
Denver is nicknamed the Mile-High
City because its official elevation is exactly
one mile or 5,280 feet (1,609.3 m) above sea
level, making it one of the highest major cities in the United

Greenwich passes
through Union
Station and is the temporal reference for
the Mountain Time Zone.
With a 2012 estimated population of 634,265, Denver ranks as
the 23rd
most populous U.S. city.[12] The
10-county Denver-Aurora-Broomfield,
CO Metropolitan Statistical Areahad an estimated 2011
population of 2,599,504 and ranked as the 21st
most populous U.S. metropolitan statistical area.[13] The
12-county Denver-Aurora-Boulder
Combined Statistical Area had an estimated
2011 population of 3,157,520, which ranks as
the 16th most
populous U.S. metropolitan area.[14] Denver
is the most populous city of theFront Range Urban Corridor, an
oblong urban region stretching across three states with population
of 5,467,633 in 2010.[9] Denver
is the most populous city within a 500-mile
(800 km) radius and the 3rd most
populous city in the Mountain West and
the Southwestern United
States after Phoenix,
Arizona and El Paso, Texas.
