北京重型机器厂，简称“北重”，位于石景山区与丰台区交界的吴庄。1985年成立，名“北京第二通用机械厂”，包括炼钢、铸钢、铸铁、模型、锻压、热处理等车间，职工7500人，全国八大重机厂之一。相对于首钢的冶金行业，北重属于机械加工行业，产业工人，当年著名的国营企业全民大厂。1978年更名“北京重型机器厂”。1992年3月，北重由北京市机械局划归首钢，更名“首钢通用机械厂”，1997年更名“首钢重型机器厂”。现已全部停产，游人可随便参观。

厂区最大的特点就是多个巨大的车间厂房，相比798的厂房，就是马和大象的区别，每个车间几乎都有一个足球场大。11月11日上午，骑车去北重游历，大门有保安，但不拦截游人。幸亏骑车，不到2个小时完毕，否则广阔的厂区，行走起来可不简单。
