大概地认识希腊语字母，记忆英语中的长单词是一种享受——rhinoceros（犀牛）

小朋友并不需要专门学习希腊语字母。您只要在记忆一些源自希腊语的单词时大概地认识一下用到的希腊语字母就可以了。很快它们就会成为您的好朋友。

源自希腊语ιπποπόταμος，其中的hippo-表“马”，potam表“河”，-us是拉丁语表“阳性、单数”后缀，对应希腊语的ος。

rhino- [前缀，表示“鼻子的”]

cer源自keras [角]

绝大多数小朋友都知道英语中的nose表“鼻子”，而horn表“角”：

horn[hC:n]n.(牛、羊等的)角, 喇叭, 触角

rhinoceros这个所谓的英语单词中实际上是使用了两个希腊语的“鼻”和“角”，它的字面意思就是“鼻和角”：

The word rhinoceros is derived through Latin from the Ancient Greek: ῥῑνόκερως, which is composed of ῥῑνο- (rhino-, "nose") and κέρας (keras, "horn").
