Teaching aims:

1.       To read the play of Home Alone, mainly focusing on Act One and Act Two.

2.       To learn to apply the basic reading skill: how to read a play.

3.       To learn some useful expressions in this paly.

Teaching procedures:

Step1 Revision

Talk about your own growing pains.

Step2 Presentation

(1)    Watch a part of the movie Home Alone, and answer the questions:

1.       What are the people in the movie doing?

2.       What is the main character’s name?

Keys:

1.       They are quarreling with each other.

2.       Daniel.

(2)    Reading strategy: reading a play

1.       A play contains five elements: character, time, place, event, feeling/circumstance.

2.       A play is in the form of a dialogue.

3.       A play is spoken directly, even if they are grammatically in correct.

4.       A play should be read out loud with emotions, not read silently.

(3)    Read the play by yourself and answer the questions.

1.       Who are the main characters in the play?

2.       Why do the parents get angry?

3.       What really happened to the dog, Spot?
