中国的钻石储量是亚洲第一。在山东临沂蒙阴县，辽宁瓦房店，湖南沅水流域，有正在开采的钻石矿。其中以山东临沂的蒙阴县、临沐县、郯城县发现的钻石为最大；1936年1月在临沂郯城金鸡岭发现重281.25克拉黄金色大钻，命名"金鸡钻石"，抗日战争时期下落不明。1977年12月在临沂临沐县常林村农民魏振芳捡到的重157.786克拉,淡黄色钻石，命名"常林钻石"现存中国人民银行。1981年8月在临沂郯城陈埠发现重124.27克拉钻石，命名"陈埠一号"。1983年11月在临沂蒙阴建材701矿开采出重119.01克拉钻石，命名"蒙山一号"。1983年11月，在临沂蒙阴建材701矿开采出重101.469克拉钻石，命名"蒙山二号"。

        亚洲最大的钻石博物馆就坐落在701矿旁边，山东省蒙阴县联城乡常马庄，“山东沂蒙钻石国家矿山公园”于2013年4月26日全新开馆、重装迎宾。
