拉迪亚德·吉卜林（Rudyard Kipling）
1865—1936，英国小说家、诗人，出生于印度孟买。
吉卜林一生共创作了八部诗集、四部长篇小说、二十一部短篇小说集和历史故事集，以及大量散文、随笔、游记等。他的作品简洁凝练，充满异国情调，尤其在短篇小说方面，是无与伦比的。马克·吐温曾盛赞吉卜林的作品，“我了解吉卜林的书……它们对于我从来不会变得苍白，它们保持着缤纷的色彩；它们永远是新鲜的。

Kipling
If you can keep your head when all
about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on
you;
If you can trust yourself when all
men doubt you,
But make allowance for their
doubting too:
If you can wait and not be tired by
waiting,
Or, being lied about, don't deal in
lies,
Or being hated don't give way to
hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor
talk too wise;
If you can dream -- and not dreams
your master;
If you can think -- and not make

If you can meet with Triumph and
Disaster
And treat those two impostors just

If you can bear to hear the truth
you've spoken
