I tend to agree that young children can be negatively affected by too much time spent in front of TV both at home and at school. This is partly because sitting in front of the screen for too long can be damaging for both eyes and the physical posture of a young child, or even resulting in obesity, regardless of what contents they are watching. Another concern is the unfavourable influence on the growth of young students, both mentally and psychologically. Besides, unlike reading, which can help children develop their imagination and independent thinking, children who watch TV absorb information passively, leading to the decline of their creativity.The most serious thing is that there is too much violence and porn on TV nowadays, which is largely responsible for the increasingly aggressive behaviour of teenagers according to researchers.

In spite of this, the obvious benefits of watching TV regularly, particularly watching those informative and educational programs, cannot be denied. First, children now live in a changing and fast-paced society and they need to be informed of the latest knowledge. Focusing on current affairs help them keep abreast of times and watching news around the world frequently broadens their horizon. Also, some scientific programs like Discovery or Geography are good source of inspiration and may open the door of wisdom and arouse learning interest in the young minds.

I think the main point here is not to ban or discourage children from watching TV completely, but to make sure that they do not watch too much TV or watch TV indiscriminately.
