《If》
If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on
you;
你仍能始终保持理智;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting
too;
你仍能坚信自己,同时体谅他们对你的怀疑;
If you can wait and not be tired by
waiting,
Or, being lied about,don't deal in lies,
Or, being hated, don't give way to
hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise;
不要太乐观,也不要自以为是;
If you can dream - and not make dreams your
master;
如果可以做梦,不要让梦把你主宰;
If you can think - and not make thoughts your
aim;
如果可以思考,不要只是想却不去行动;
If you can meet with triumph and disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
能够把两者当骗子同样看待;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've
spoken
Twiseted by knaves to make a trap for
fools,
被无赖扭曲,成为愚弄人的工具;
Or watch the things you gave your life to
broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with wornout tools;
能够俯下身去,拿起破旧的工具把它重新修补;
If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your
beginnings
即使遭遇失败,也能从头再来;
And never breathe a word about your loss;
从不因你的失去抱怨半句;
If you can force your heart and nerve and
sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothin in you
Except the Will which says to them——Hold on!;
只有意志告诉你“坚持!”;
If you can talk with crowds and keep your
virtue,
Or walk with Kings -nor lose the common
touch;
伴王同行,依旧能够平易近人;
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt
you;
如果无论仇敌还是好友,都无法对你造成伤害;
If all men count with you, but none too much;
如果你广结善缘,却能保持分寸;
With sixty second' worth of distance run
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in
it,
you'll be a Man my
son!
镇定自若,而不是人云亦云;
自信如常,而不是妄加辩论;
如果你有梦想,又不迷失自我;
如果你有神思,又不走火入魔;
在灾难之后也勇于咀嚼苦果;
被无赖歪曲成面目全非的魔术而不生怨艾;
也不肯放弃;
还是冒险一搏,哪怕功名化为乌有;
即使惨遭失败,也仍要从头开始;
和王侯散步而不露献媚之颜;
如果他人的爱憎左右不了你的正气;
如果你与任何人为伍能够卓然独立;
或遭人憎恨却不以恶报恶;
既不装腔作势,亦不气盛趾高;
如果你有梦想,而又不为梦主宰;
如果你有神思,而又不走火入魔;
亦或与王侯散步而不露谄媚之颜;
如果敌友都无法对你造成伤害;
如果众人对你信赖有加却不过分依赖;
如果你能惜时如金利用每一分钟不可追回的光阴;
