据传说，秃尾巴老李-大黑龙（黑龙江的传说），在天空降服小白龙后，已是精疲力竭，昏昏欲睡，在返回天庭途中不慎坠入此湖，沉睡3天后返回天庭。卧龙湖因此而得名。
