教学案例与反思   

Teaching aims

1. Ss appreciate the contribution of Yuan Longping and learn his biography.

2. Ss practice their reading skills and can improve their understanding.

1. Guide Ss to understand Dr Yuan’s contribution and biography.

2. How to guide Ss to use reading skills efficiently.

Skimming, Scanning and Task-based method.

Teaching procedures

Step1 Lead-in

     Show Ss a video about Yuan Longping.

Step2 Fast-reading

     Ss skim the passage and answer the following questions:

  1. What does Dr.Yuan think of himself?
  2. On what does Dr.Yuan spent most of his money?
  3. In Dr.Yuan’s dream, each ear() of rice was as big as_______?

Step3 Careful-reading

Activity 1  Ss scan the para.1 and do the following exercise.

Q1: What does Dr Yuan look like?

He has a sunburnt face and arms and a slim, strong body. He is more like a farmer than a scientist.

Q2: What is his achievement?

He grows what is called super hybrid rice, which makes it possible to produce one-third more of the crop in the same fields.

True or False:

2.Dr Yuan’s kind of rice is the most suitable for Chinese farmland.   T

Activity 2  Ss scan para.2 and put Dr Yuan’s biography in right order.

Activity 3 Difficult Points:(阅读难点解析)

1. Indeed, his sunburnt face and arms and his slim, strong body are just like those of millions of Chinese farmers, for whom he has struggled for the past five decades.

   语法要点:介词+关系代词引导定语从句。

   理解难点:此处whom用来指代前面的millions of  Chinese farmers.

2. Dr Yuan Longping grows what is called super hybrid rice.

    what is called 译为 所谓的

   译文:袁隆平种植了所谓的超级杂交水稻。

   e.g. The ship finally reached what is called

          America now.

  类似用语:what s.b call / so-called

   译一译:The building in front of you is so-called “Kaifeng Gu Lou”.

3. Spending money on himself or leading a comfortable life also means very little to him.

   mean sth to sb 译为:对某人意味着什么

   译文:在自己身上花钱或过上舒适的生活对他来说并不是意味着很多。

   e.g. Your help means so much to the poor family.

用法拓展:It means sth to sb that……

汉译英:   我们能在学习上取得进步 (get improved)对我们的父母来说就是最好的回报(the best reward)

It means the best reward to our parents that we can get improved on our study.

 

Activity 4 Ss scan para.4 and find out his dreams.

     The first dream: Produce a kind of rice that could feed more people. (as big as sorghum, as big as corn, as huge as a peanut) 

The second dream: to export his rice so that it can be grown all over the world.

 Activity 5 Ss review the passage and do Ex.1 on SB P11.

Step4 Discussion

1. What do you think of Dr Yuan from the passage? Why?

    2. If you had the chance to do something to help end hunger in the world, what would you do?

Step5 Homework

   Ss read the passage after class. 

教学反思:

1.这节课思路较清晰,重点突出,通过一段视频让学生近距离了解我国伟大的农业科学家。通过快速阅读与精读,让学生掌握并操练阅读理解的方法与技巧。与此同时,学生通过反复阅读课文,一方面提高了阅读能力,另一方面加强了对伟大农业科学家的了解。在授课过程中,教师侧重于讲解,学生参与相对较少。

2.由于本课时设计的环节较多,时间比较紧。在让学生进行阅读训练后,没有让学生进行讨论,在进行语言点讲解时,能够很好地与高考试题接轨,讲解清晰明白。

3. 学生的注意力比较集中,提问适度,并且有较强的针对性。

4. 应适度增加学生感兴趣的拓展话题,进一步增强师生互动。

5. 提倡让学生主动学习英语,同时拓展其他相关用法;指导学生欣赏优美的句子,并能模仿造句。

6. 最后,要求学生应用这节课学到的词汇及句型组织成一篇短文,做到学以致用。
