The UN Security Council has adopted a binding resolution compelling states to prevent their nationals joining jihadists in Iraq and Syria.

US President Barack Obama chaired the session and said nations must prevent the recruitment and financing of foreign fighters.

The US-drafted resolution was adopted unanimously.

联合国安理会通过一项有约束力的决议案，强制会员国阻止国民加入在伊拉克及叙利亚的伊斯兰教圣战组织。

French President Francois Hollande has strongly condemned the beheading in Algeria of tourist Herve Gourdel by a jihadist group linked to Islamic State (IS) militants.

The president described the killing as a "cruel and cowardly" act.

He said that French air strikes which began on IS targets in Iraq last week would continue.

法国总统奥朗德（Francois Hollande）强烈谴责与IS有关联的圣战组织斩首在阿尔及利亚的法国游客高德尔（Herve Gourdel）。

奥朗德形容高德尔被杀害是“残忍、懦弱的行为”。

The UK's prime minister has held talks with the Iranian president for the first time since Iran's 1979 revolution.

David Cameron and Hassan Rouhani's meeting in New York is being taken as a sign of a thawing of relations. 

The UK parliament is expected to be recalled on Friday to discuss taking part in military action in Iraq.

英国首相卡梅伦（David Cameron）与伊朗总统哈桑（Hassan Rouhani）举行自1979年伊朗革命以来的首次会谈。

卡梅伦和哈桑在纽约的会谈被看作是融冰之旅。

Nato says it has observed a "significant" withdrawal of Russian troops from eastern Ukraine, but adds that some forces still remain there.

Nato spokesman Lt Col Jay Janzen says it is difficult to determine the number of soldiers in Ukraine, as pro-Russian rebels control some border crossings.

Moscow denies arming the rebels and sending Russian troops to the Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

北约声称注意到俄罗斯正规军大批撤离乌克兰东部，但仍有相当部分留在那里。

北约发言人简森中校（Jay Janzen）称，乌克兰境内俄军的数量很难确定，因为若干边境口岸仍由亲俄分裂分子把守。

The Nigerian military has said that more than 260 Boko Haram militants have surrendered in north-eastern Nigeria.

A spokesman also said that the military had killed the man posing as the group's leader, Abubakar Shekau.

Although it is impossible to independently verify, the military is seeing it as a turning point, our correspondent adds.

尼日利亚军方表示，260多名博科圣地武装分子已经在尼日利亚东北部投降。

一名军方发言人还说，自称是“博科圣地”首领阿布巴卡尔·谢考的人已经在与政府军作战时被打死。
