SHAKESPEARE'S SONNET 19                    莎士比亞十四行詩第19首

Devouring Time, blunt thou the lion’s paws,                       饕餮時魔，銼斬雄獅利爪，

And make the earth devour her own sweet brood;             令那大地吞噬其可愛生靈；

Pluck the keen teeth from the fierce tiger’s jaws,             橫扯兇殘貙虎之頜骨尖牙，

And burn the long-lived phoenix in her blood;                    讓不死鳳凰於血焰中焚燼；

Make glad and sorry seasons as thou fleet’st,                     光陰荏苒令四季留下悲喜，

And do whate'er thou wilt, swift-footed time,                   白駒過隙，時魔胡作非為，

To the wide world and all her fading sweets;                      令百花褪色世間萬物凋敝；

But I forbid thee one most heinous crime:                          然吾欲禁汝一樁彌天大罪：

O！carve not with thy hours my love’s fair brow,                呵！不可在吾愛額上刻畫，

Nor draw no lines there with thine ántique pen.                 汝古董之筆不可在此塗蘸。

Him in thy course untainted do allow                                   絕不容其蒙上歲月之沉渣，

For beauty’s pattern to succeeding men.                             讓那萬世留下純美之典範。
