Three passions, simple but overwhelmingly strong, have governed my life:

三种激情虽然简单，却异常强烈，它们统治着我的生命，那便是：

对爱的渴望，对知识的追求，以及对人类苦难的难以承受的同情。

 

long for v.渴望，longing for是其-ing形式，前面有the应该是动名词吧？

 

后面的search可以作动词也可以作名词使用：

想一想在这里是作什么词用的？

 

unbearable[Qn5bZErEbl]adj.无法忍受的, 承受不住的（un+bear+able）

un这里作否定前缀

bearable[5bZErEbl]adj.可忍受的, 支持得住的（bear+able）

bear作为名词使用一般表“熊”，作为动词使用表“忍受”

bear[bZE]n.熊v.负担, 忍受, 带给, 具有, 挤, 向

bear中的ear的发音和air是一样的[ZE]，请复习pear, wear。

在hear, near, dear中的ear发音和ear是一样的[iE]
