We
have been studying the phenomena of Qi for many years, exploring
the relationship between He Tu-Luo Shu and the human body and
nervous system. In our exploration of the realm of Qi, we have come
to understand the close relationship between the five senses, the
five organs, and the willpower.
“ The
Introduction to the Four Hundred Character Classic on Golden
Elixir:
"……With eyes that
do not see, the soul resides in the liver; with ears that do not
hear, the essence dwells in the kidneys; with a tongue that does
not taste, the spirit resides in the heart; with a nose that does
not smell, the corporeal soul resides in the lungs; with limbs that
do not move, the intention resides in the spleen. Thus, it is
called the Five Qi Congregating at the Origin.
"
Recently , by
chance, I came across a passage in the “Golden Cabinet Mantra”
within the “Huangdi Neijing” (Yellow Emperor’s Inner Canon). The
passage is as follows:
“ Eastern is blue, associated with the liver….resembling wood
….
its number is
eight.
Southern is red, associated with the heart…resembling
fire…
its number is
seven.
Central is yellow, associated with the spleen…resembling
earth…
its number is
five.
Western is white, associated with the lungs…resembling
metal…
its number is
nine.
Northern is black,
associated with the kidneys…resembling water…
its number is
six.”
We
have compared the composition of the spinal nervous system in each
of the five viscera (organs), and obtained a unique
result.
1.
The liver (8) has
eight spinal nerves.
2.
The heart (7) has
seven spinal nerves.
3.
The lungs (9) have
nine spinal nerves.
4.
The kidneys and
bladder (6) have six spinal nerves.
5.
The
spleen/pancreas (5) has five spinal nerves.

Figure 1 is a
composition of He Tu, the spinal nerves and the Five Zang-Fu.
Strangely, 8 is 3+5, 7 is 2+5, 9 is 4+5, 6 is 1+5, and the
combination of 5 can be (5+5).
This
is the first time that He Tu, Zang-Fu (Viscera), and the Spinal
Nervous System are combined.
This further
proves that in certain situations, numbers can represent symbols,
and symbols can be translated into numbers. This holds great
significance and influence in Chinese metaphysics, divination, feng
shui, and mysticism. We can delve into a detailed discussion on
this topic in the future.
水火木金土的生數。由於土居中為萬物之母,若每一生數再加五,則變為各自的所謂成數。生數為一至五,象徵性事物的發生;
《The Book of
Documents, Hong Fan》:
“The
Five Elements: Firstly, there is water; secondly, there is fire;
thirdly, there is wood; fourthly, there is metal; fifthly, there is
earth.” The numbers one, two, three, four, and five represent the
vitality of the five elements – water, fire, wood, metal, and
earth. Since earth is at the center and serves as the mother of all
things, if each vitality is increased by five, they become what is
known as the transformative vitality. The vitality numbers one to
five symbolize the generation of natural phenomena, while the
transformative vitality numbers six to ten represent the formation
of things. (Figure 2)

serves as a reference for the theories of traditional Chinese
medicine organs and their functions. This article aims to integrate
modern neuroscience and the theories of the Huangdi Neijing to
understand the He Tu and Shu Numbers.
