Song for Dispelling Doubts Concerning the Correct Path

翻譯:雙延館主

 

若非符契天緣事，故把天機訣與君，

Due to the karma of the books-Yin Fu Jing( 陰符經）& Can Tong Qi ( 參同契）. The heavenly secret is divulging to you.

 

片言半句無多字，萬卷仙經一語通，

It consists of only a few words. Hence, ten thousand scrolls rest on one monolingualism.

 

一訣便知天外事，掃盡旁門不見蹤，

One knack will know the far occurrence even beyond the highest heaven. It will sweep away the heterodox without a trace.

 

若言此理神仙道，天地虛無上下空，

If this is the Dao of immortal, heaven and earth are void, and the above and the below are empty.

 

說破木金無間隔，真鉛真汞豈有形，

The discussion is that there is no separation between wood and metal. Similarly, the actual lead and the actual mercury are without forms.

 

誰知這個天機理，便會日月得高奔，

Who knows this heavenly secret? One will let the sun and moon fly far and high.

 

也無坎離並龍虎，也無烏免各西東，

There are no Kan ( 坎）and Li (離) nor dragon and tiger. Likewise, there are no fowl and hare, nor-east and west.

 

非肝非肺非心腎，不於脾胃膽和精，

They are not liver and lung, nor heart and kidney. They are not related to the spleen, stomach, gallbladder, and spirit (sperm).

 

非思非想非為作，不在三田上下中，

They are not thoughts nor wishes, and nor actions. They do not locate at the three DanTians ( 丹田 top, bottom, and middle).

 

豈於夾脊至昆侖，不是精津氣血液，

They do not relate to the bilateral sides of the spine or the Kunlun( head). They are not spirits, saliva, Qi, blood, or fluid.

 

不是膀胱五臟神，此物在人身中出，

They are not the bladder nor the five visceral Gods. Instead, this ambrosia generates from within the human body.

 

四時春夏及秋冬，先天先地誰人識，

It exists in the four seasons: spring, summer, autumn, and winter. Who knows? They are before heaven and earth.

 

二物相和重一斤，弦望晦朔各本數，

The union of the two weighs one catty. The last and the first day of a lunar month and the full and the gibbous moon make up the primary number ( cycle).

 

循環晝夜不曾空，依時採取知老嫩，

It circulates day and night without stopping. Harvesting at the right timing will know whether it is young or old.

 

 

 

片晌之間併甲庚，只在西南產本位，

The union of Jia ( 甲wood) and Geng ( 庚metal) only takes a moment. The sole birthplace is at the southwest.

 

慢慢調和入艮宮，試把天機輕撥動，

It slowly harmonizes into the Gen(艮）palace. One attempts to stir the heavenly secret.

 

真炁時時聚太空．謀得乾坤為鼎器，

The primordial Qi will always gather in the sky. Therefore, one can seek Qian ( 乾）and Kun (坤）as the culinary tripod.

 

顛倒宇宙任縱橫，南辰移入北辰位，

One will be able to transpose the cosmos vertically and horizontally. The southern star moves into the polar star position.

 

金鳥飛入玉蟾宮，太陽裏面藏玉兔，

The golden bird flies into the jade toad palace. Inside, the sun hides the jade hare.

 

太陰加減自和同，前弦之後尋藥物，

The moon harmonizes by adding or subtracting accordingly. Therefore, the time to seek the drug is after the first moon quarter.

 

後弦之前炁停勻，兩弦之間為採取，

The Qi stops balancing before the third quarter. Between the two quarters is known as gathering.

 

先後存亡定祖宗，他是主時賓是我，

The sequence of birth and death determines the ancestral order. If he is the host, then the guest is me.

我若浮時你卻沉，調得浮沉歸一處，

When I float, you will sink. Floating and sinking even merge into one place.

 

沐浴潛藏總是空，離坎本來無南北，

Similarly, bathing or hiding ends in vain. Li ( 離）and Kan ( 坎）don't belong to the south or the north.

 

震兌豈則在西東，若遇神仙親指訣，

Zhen（震）and Du（兌） do not exist in the west or the east. You encounter the immortal and get his instruction on the secret code.

 

捉住北斗周天輪，撮得陰陽歸掌內，

You will catch the great dipper and the cosmo wheel. Then, finally, you will be able to extract Yin and Yang into your palm.

 

頃刻之間萬物生，這些金液還丹訣，

Then all living things come to life instantly. The above is the secret code of golden elixir.

 

不遇仙師莫強攻，果然采得先天氣，

Don't pursue without encountering an immortal teacher！ When one can gather the primordial Qi.

 

日月擒來兩手中，晝夜打交成一塊，

He will capture the sun and the moon into the two hands. The two fight together day and night into one piece.

 

自有龍吟虎笑聲，初時上下風聲吼，

Spontaneously, the sound of the snorting dragon and the howling of tigers will appear. At first, there is wind roaring noise above and below.

漸凝漸結紫雲生，雲滿山中遮日月，

Gradually, they condense into the purple clouds. The whole mountain is full of clouds and shadows, covering the sun and the moon.

 

此時一陣似朦朧，默默自然雲霧動，

Then, a moment of haziness emerges. Then, stealthily, the cloud and the mist spontaneously move.

 

定裏時間霹靂聲，紫鳳烏兔交一處，

In quietness, the adept will hear the sound of thunder. The purple Phoenix and the black rabbit connect in one place.

 

金鳥玉兔自相爭，虎繞龍蟠尋至寶，

Similarly, the golden raven and the jade rabbit compete with each other. The crouching tiger and the coiling dragon also seek the most valuable treasure.

 

金公姹女結婚姻，這番子母裏相會，

The golden duke (lead) and the beautiful maiden ( mercury) perform their holy matrimony. This incidence is analogous to the son and mother meeting inside.

 

神炁歸根合本真，一點最初真種子，

At last, the mind and Qi return to their original self. It is a grain of initial seed.

 

入得丹田萬古春，先天先地歸一處，

This seed enters into the Dan Tien ever-living. The primordial heaven and earth meet in one place.

 

混沌未分豈有痕，生發自然合聖理，

There is no trace in undivided chaos. The generation and the birth naturally follow the sacred rules.

綠葉紅花一色新，上下水火自澆灌，

The green leaves and the red flowers appear in a fresh, uniform new color. The vertical up and down orientation enable self-irrigation between water and fire.

 

二炁交結產胎嬰，自然百日生神像，

The two Qi's copulate, producing the immortal fetus. Naturally, the everlasting image will appear in a hundred days.

 

自有超凡出死生，果然百日防危險，

It will have extraordinary power to control life and death. After prevention of perils for a hundred days,

 

血化為膏體似銀，果然百日無虧失，

the blood becomes creamy, and the body appears silvery. If there is no erosion in a hundred days,

 

玉膏流潤生光明，真炁薰蒸無寒暑，

the jade cream starts to flow and lubricate, resulting in a radiant appearance. The true Qi vaporizes and evaporates independent of hot and cold seasons.

 

可為無上道高人，炎炎鍛煉三百日，

One can name as the supreme Dao master. Fiercely training for three hundred days,

 

驟雨顛風滿太空，電光晃耀無窮數，

there will be heavy showers and storms in the entire space. There will be countless numbers of brilliant thunders and lights.

 

雷震天關鬼神驚，掀翻宇宙飛白雪，

 The thunder shakes the sky gate causing the ghosts and deities to panic. It can overturn the universe making the snow fly.

倒提乾坤不夜春，換骨回陽身不朽，

The reversal of Qian-Kun brings about darkless night. The exchange of the bone into a Yang state renders a non-decaying body.

 

九還七返化真形，辛苦都來十個月，

The nine returns and the seven conveyances transform to an actual form. A period of hardship is about ten months.

 

內外虛明表裏真，聚則成形散則炁，

The body is transparent in and out and is accurate. The power of condensation form appears, and the power of dispersion, Qi, presides.

 

返本還原太虛同，變化往來人莫測，

It is the return to the original condition known as the great void. The transformation comes and goes mysteriously beyond prediction.

 

祖祖相傳古到今，一理變合天地理，

Ancestral succession passes on from generation to generation and from past to present. One rationale will match the law of nature.

 

神仙口訣不為虛，更若保守一二載，

The immortal oral code is not false. If one continues to practice for one or two years,

 

百千萬億壽無窮，會得金液種形法，

longevity lasts forever (from hundred, thousand, ten thousand to million). If one can acquire the knowledge of Golden Elixir,

 

乘鸞跨鶴自飛騰，出有入無無阻礙，

he will ride the phoenix or step on the crane to fly. There is no obstacle on the path, and there is to exit and is void to enter.

蓬萊三島任縱橫，若更萬年百千劫，

One trans passes the three islands of Penguin Lai ( 蓬萊- a fabled abode of immortal) freely. Though there are thousands of calamities in ten thousand years,

 

海變桑田貌亦同，堪嗟無限學仙者，

and the ocean changes into mulberry fields, the immortals remain without change. We are lamenting over a lot of learners in pursuing immortality.

 

總是天仙道不同，俱被野狐涎昧定，

It is because they are choosing the wrong immortal path. The wild fox bewitches some learners.

 

鬼言妖語怎生聽，雲遊四海參玄妙，

How can they listen to the ghost and the witch's words? Some try to travel around the world to seek mysterious teaching.

 

儘是邪門小法功，愚迷執強難教化，

Unfortunately, all are evil with small tricks. It is hard to teach a firm and stubborn believer.

 

依然一盲引眾盲，有如餐松並服餌，

So a blind always leads the other blinds. Like some dine with pine(seeds) and bait.

 

如何脫免死生根；有如忘形習定息，

How can one escape from life and death? Like some try to exercise to forget shapes and forms to stabilize the breathing.

 

如何百脈盡歸宗；有如呼吸想丹田，

How can one govern the Nadi back to their origin? Like some try to exercise breathing and focus at the Dan Tian.

到底胎仙學未成；有如息氣為先天，

In the end, in vain, to form the immortal fetus. Some consider breathing and air as the primordial heaven.

 

至老無成也是空；有如口鼻為玄牝，

It will carry failure to old age in vain. Some use the mouth and nose as the mysterious valley.

 

恰似漏網去包風；有如思心為方寸，

It is like using a net to wrap the wind. Some meditate and focus at heart as the square inch (knack).

 

怎得歸元見祖宗；更有積精為鉛汞，

How can one reverse back to see the ancestral origin? Some accumulate spirit as lead and mercury.

 

轉與金丹事不同；有執炁神為子母，

Some turn away and are different from the affair of golden elixir. Some hold mind and Qi as mother and son.

 

亦隔天仙萬里程；有如開頂為鍊養，

The above acts are ten thousand miles away from the immortal path. There is practice to open the fontanelle.

 

枉施功力謾勞神；更有縮龜併鍊乳，

These practices waste your effort and spiritual exhaustion. There is also the practice of penile contraction and breast exercise.

 

正是邪門小法功；更有行炁為火候，

They are all small tricks of the pagans. Some move Qi as a timing indication.

九載三年誤了人；鼻頭閉息服元炁，

These tricks will impede one's progress for three or nine years. Some stop breathing with the nose as if consuming the primordial Qi.

 

引得邪風肚裏鳴，假若識心並見性，

It will induce unwanted air to the abdomen and create sounds.  If one thinks it is enlightenment.

 

到頭終久做陰靈，知他多少閑門戶，

In the end, one still dies and becomes a ghost.  How many leisure families?

 

勞碌空動骷髏形，止念降心為清淨，

They labor with vigorous actions and only result in a skeletal form.  Some try to calm the heart as tranquility.

 

下稍終久是頑空；晝夜專行子午法，

The inferior methods in the long run yield empty results.  If one only practices Zi Wu (子:11pm-1am; 午: 11am-1pm) meridian method,

 

天地豈有惡時辰；孤修閉息行存想，

there are no unwanted hours in heaven and earth.  In solitude, one practices breath holdings and meditation.

 

執定舌根做赤龍；更有周天行卦象；

Some use the tip of the tongue as the red dragon.  Some use the cosmic circulation as the hexagram.

 

更有種頂作黃庭；更有指腎為造化；

Some plow the top of the head like a yellow chamber.  Some point at the kidney as the (fetal) creation.

執定尾閭為命根；更有還元服水火；

Some held the coccyx as the root of life.  There are some swallow water and fire as means to return to origin.

更有採補吸婬精；更有仰天吸日月，

There are some gather elixir and absorb spirit. Some are looking up to heaven to gather the nectar of the sun and the moon.

 

便道地魄是天魂；更有咽精為造化，

Some say that the earthy spirit is the heavenly soul. There is some suck saliva as a way for nature creation.

 

斷除五味是修真；晝夜一餐為日用，

Some abstain from five flavors as a way of Dao. There are some practice one meal a day.

 

身體尫羸似鬼形；由身偃仰叩玉戶，

The body emancipates like a ghostly in appearance. Some try to lean back the body to knock on the Jade door.

 

抱元守一運雙睛；竦肩縮項思脊骨；

Some try to row both eyes for the concealment of spirit and Qi. Some try to shrink the shoulder, contract the neck, and meditate at the spine.

 

搬運流珠想太陰；更有書符並念咒，

Some move the prayer beads and focus on the lunar moon or write talismans and recite mantras.

 

破券分環學隱形；按摩吁呵六字訣，

Some try to study many books to learn the art of invisibility. Others try to message and to utter the six-character formula.

瞻星禮斗受辛勤；入清吐濁為丹本，

Some try to view the stars and worship the polar star zealously. Some also attempt to inhale fresh air and exhale impure air as the seed of elixir.

 

陽關緊勒火飛騰；炎炎遍身通透熱，

Some even practice celibacy is causing flaming sexual desire. It spreads over the whole body and generates intense heat.

 

呼作天真大道根；看讀念讚持科籙，

Some call the nocturnal erection the root of Dao. Some look at books and chant according to Daoist scriptures.

 

設壇拜醮望飛騰；三千六百傍門法，

Some set up altars and perform Daoist rituals in the hope of hovering high and far. There are three thousand six hundred heretical sects.

 

不識隨形晝夜人，有緣遭遇明師指，

Unfortunately, one does not know the all-day malleable man ( baroque). It is a destiny that you get instruction from an absolute immortal master.

 

頃刻之間造化生，一炁循環無阻礙，

In a split moment, creation and evolution start. One Qi circulates without obstruction.

 

散在萬物與人身，達人採得先天炁，

It scatters among ten thousand living things and the human body. The adept gathers the Primordial Qi.

 

一夜雷聲不暫停，電光閃閃無窮數，

It thunders all night long without stopping. The electric lights flush countless times.

 

二炁相交豈有形，摧塌天關無可比，

The two Qi's copulate without shape. It collapses the celestial gate without comparison.

 

雷電風阻一齊生，顛倒顛時交換位，

As a result, thunder, electricity, wind, and rain generate all at once. Therefore, transposition only means exchanging of positions.

 

無量火炁亂崢嶸，虎繞藥罏爭造化，

There is an endless quantity of fire and Qi struggle for supremacy. The crouching tiger in the medicine furnace competes for creation.

 

龍蟠金鼎要飛騰，四象五行歸戊己，

The coiling dragon in the cooking vessels prepares to fly. The four forms and the five elements return to Wu Ji( 戊己earth ).

 

烹鍊金液混元晶，萬朵紫雲籠北海，

To cook and purify the golden elixir to mix with the primal spirit. A thousand blossoms of purple clouds cover the northern sea.

 

千條百脈撞昆崙，真炁輝輝星斗暗，

A thousand Nadi collide at Kun Lun(昆崙）. The true Qi shines and dims the stars.

 

紅光赫赫太陽昏，加減自然分進退，

The bright red light shadows the sun. Increase or decrease spontaneously divides into advance or retreat.

 

前弦後弦定其真，丹頭老嫩須亦認，

The first and the third moon quarters determine its authenticity. But, first, one has to recognize whether the nectar is young or old.

抽添應用片時中，結胎火候有時刻，

To draw up and to replenish only takes a short moment. The formation of an embryo has its set time.

 

真火炎炎燒宇宙，乾坤上下盡通紅，

The accurate fire is hot enough to burn the universe. Up and down, or Qian and Kun are red throughout. 

 

一火一水分爻象，一升一降自浮沉，

One water or fire divides the Yao (爻 lines in a trigram) line image. The one up-down mode induces self floating or sinking.

 

一來一去分賓主，一前一後有君臣，

One comes and goes distinguishes the guest or the host. One in front and one behind signifies the lord or the king.

 

一陰一陽為天地，一剛一柔自均勻，

One Yin and one Yang represent heaven and earth. One rigid and one soft harmonize each other.

冬夏二至為節候，春秋二分定寒溫，

The two solstices, winter and summer denote the solar terms. The two equinoxes, spring, and autumn establish the warm or the cold.

 

往來上下無形象，循環晝夜有時辰，

The up and down dissemination is without shape. The night and day circulation has its own time.

 

若非上祖相傳訣，豈知大道片時功，

If without the passed on secret code from our ancestral master, how can one know that the great Dao can achieve in a moment?

驅回斗柄玄關理，斡轉天關萬象通，

Refoulment of the dipper's handle is the principle of the entryway. Turning around the celestial gate leads to panorama omnivorous understanding.

片晌龍虎頻頻鬥，二物交合頃刻中，

Suddenly, the dragon and the tiger repeatedly fight. Finally, the two units are together in a moment.

 

擒得猩猩俱鶻突，混混沌沌未分明，

Capturing the gorilla is with bewilderment. It is chaotic and blurred. 

 

此是木金交併法，真鉛真汞天地晶，

At this time, the wood and metal start to mix. The actual lead and the actual mercury are the crystals of heaven and earth.

 

只此火候金丹訣，全憑交結在黃庭，

The above is called the sole duration for the golden elixir code. It is dependent on the merging act at the yellow chamber.

 

混元一炁千年藥，萬劫常存不夜春，

The primal Qi has been the panacea for a thousand years. It will survive natural calamities without a trace.

 

三千刻內嬰兒象，百日功夫造化靈，

It takes 3000Ke ( 刻20 minutes)for the embryonic image to appear. After that, it takes a hundred days for the embryo to develop.

 

十月煉成純陽體，自然寒暑不來侵，

It takes ten months to form the pure Yang body. It will naturally prevent the attack by the hot or cold.

 

瑞氣彩雲遮玉體，鸞鶴對舞面前迎，

The auspicious Qi and the colorful clouds cover the body. The mythical phoenix and the crane both dance to say welcome.

 

玉女雙雙持紫詔，名曰方號喚真人，

The paired young maidens hold the purple edict to bestow the name as a true man.

 

金光罩體人難視，節制威儀左右行，

The golden light veils the body and is hard to see. The honor guards are solemnly moving on both sides.

 

仙鶴接引朝元去，白日飛升謁上京。

The immortal crane welcomes the return to the origin. It is the daytime flying back to the imperial palace.
