《简明竹谱》是根据清代成丰年间的木刻本《写竹简明法》整理出版的。作者蒋最峰为清代乾隆年间人，《写竹简明法》是为乾隆皇帝八十寿辰进奉所刻印，印数很少。嘉庆丙辰年春（公元一七九六年）汉阳人叶志诜在琉璃厂火神庙书摊上购得此书，于六十年后，即咸丰六年一公元一八五六年一又重印此书，以为流传。
