  一个主题(topic);

  对于该主题的主题思念或核心思惟(main idea);

  Sharks ―The facts(沙鱼的本相);

  The youngest software tester (最年轻的硬件实验者);

  Loses and inputs of water in the human body( 人体水份的摄取量和耗费量);

  How to play the computer game “Attack” (若何玩电脑游戏《打击》);

  Influence of laser on television

    例 1 : Choose the most general ( 概括性的 ) word.

     A) chemist B) physicist C) scientist D) biologist

2 : Read the following passage and select the most appropriate( 适合的 ) title:

     According to legend, the gods of the ancient Greeks lived in the clouds on the top of Mount Olympus. Zeus, the father of the gods, carried a bolt of lightning in his hand and ruled like an earthly king. Apollo was the sun god and his beams were golden arrows; he shielded the flocks of sheep and the fields of grain. Athena was the warrior goddess, standing in shining armor ready to protect the Greek cities. There were other gods as well, all with familiar human characteristics, but these were the leading gods.

     A) The Gods of the Ancient Greeks

     B) The Legend of the Sky God Zeus

     C) Beliefs of the Ancient Greeks

     D) Religions of the Past

3 : Read the following and choose the title that best expresses the ideas of the passage.

     There is a simple economic principle used to determine prices. It is called the law of supply and demand. Supply means the amount of certain goods. Demand represents the number of people who want those goods. If there are more goods than wanted, the price of them falls. On the other hand, if the demand for those goods is much greater than the supply, then price rises. Of course manufacturers prefer to sell more goods at increased prices.

  Which of the following can be used as the title of the passage?

     A) Economic Principles

     B) Law of Supply and Demand

     C) More Goods, Lower Prices

     D) Fewer Goods, Higher Prices

4 : On June 17,1714, the officials from Maryland and Virginia held a talk with the Indians of the Six Nations. The Indians were invited to send boys to William and Mary College. In a letter the next day they refused the offer as follows:

  We know that you have a high opinion of the kind of learning taught in your colleges, and that the costs of living of our young men, while with you, would be very expensive to you. We are convinced that you mean to do us good by your proposal, and we thank you heartily. But you must know that different nations have different ways of looking at things, and you will therefore not be offended if our ideas of this kind of education happen not to be the same as yours. We have had some experience of it. Several of our young people were formerly brought up at the colleges of the northern provinces; they were taught all your sciences; but when they came back to us, they were bad manners, ignorant of every means of living in the woods … they were totally good for nothing.

  We are, however, not the less obliged by your kind offer, though we refuse to accept it; and, to show our grateful sense of it, if the gentle men of Virginia will send us a dozen of their sons, we will take care of their education, teach them in all we know, and make men of them.

  1. The passage is about .

  A. the talk between the Indians and the officials

  B. the colleges of the northern provinces

  C. the educational values of the Indians

  D. the problems of the Americans in the mid eighteenth century

5 : If you were planning to buy a television set, the following advertisement would certainly attract your attention: "Color TV, only $79. Two-day sale. Hurry." However, when you go to the store ready to buy, you may discover that the advertised sets are sold out. But the salesman is quick to reassure you that he has another model, a more reliable set which is "just right for you." It costs $359. This sales tactic is called "bait and switch." Buyers are baited with a sales offer, and then they are switched to another more costly item. Buying items on sale requires careful consideration of the merchandise (商品) and the reasons for the sale.

     The paragraph could be entitled ________.

     A) Buyer Beware  (注意,小心)   B) Clo搜索引擎优化ut Sale

     C) Crime Pays D) Buying a TV Set

6 : The seven-day holidays have brought great unexpected travel craze and brisk ( 兴旺的 ) economic activities. This creates a new term "Holiday Economy". But it leads to a heated debate about it.

  Some economists are in strong favor of the Holiday Economy. They hold that tourism-based Holiday Economy will encourage consumption( 花费 ) and add fuel to up-spending. This benefits tourism, transportation, and service industries, promoting overall economic growth.

  However, others hold that Holiday Economy brings some problems. Such problems may arise in the over-crowdedness of traffic systems because thousands and thousands of tourists flood into scenic spots.

  I believe its advantages far outweigh its side-effects. I suggest the government take effective measures to solve the problem. Only in this way can we make the Holiday Economy develop in a sound way.

  The passage is mainly about .

  A. Some economists are in strong favor of the Holiday Economy.

  B. A heated debate about "Holiday Economy".

  C. How wonderful the Holiday Economy is!

  D. Holiday Economy brings some problems.

概括性最强的是第一段最后一句“ it leads to a heated debate about it ”,而句子的中央为“ a heated debate ” 。

  1 、 Let us consider how voice training may contribute to (赞助,有助于) personality development and an improved social adjustment. In the first place, it has been fairly well established (被否认 / 被认定) that individuals (人们) tend to become what they believe other people think them to be. When people react more favorably (杰出地;有益天) toward us because our voices convey (通报) the impression that we are friendly, competent (有才能的) , and interesting, there is a strong tendency (偏向) for us to develop those qualities in our personality. If we are treated with respect by others, we soon come to have more respect for ourselves. Then, too, one's own consciousness of having a pleasant, effective voice of which he does not need to be ashamed contributes materially to a feeling of poise (处之泰然) , self-confidence, and a just pride in himself. A good voice, like good clothes , can do much for an ego (自我) that otherwise might be inclined to droop (委靡) .

     The title that best expresses the ideas of this passage is ________.

     A) Our Ego

     B) The Reflection of Our Personality

     C) How to Acquire a Pleasant Voice

     D) Voice Training in Personality Development

  2 、 An Indian Airline jet crashed (坠誉) yesterday in hilly eastern India, killing all 69 people on board, airline and government officials said.

  News agencies (通信社) said 63 passengers, including a baby who was not on the passenger list and six crew (乘务员) member who were aboard the Boeing 737 when it went down outside the city of Imphal. R.K.Ranbir Singh, the chief minister of Manipur state, said all 69 were killed.

  Two air force helicopters (曲降飞机) discovered the wreckage (残骸) of the plane near Loktak Lake, the agencies said. Imphal is the capital of Manipur, a state bordering Myanmar. The first reports blamed the unlucky accident or bad weather. It is monsoon season (雨季) in the area, and heavy rains and high winds are common.

  But a meteorologist (景象学家) said he had no report of poor weather. “The clouds are not too thick, but as you know this is a hilly area, and there could be mountain gusts,” he said.

  The best title for this passage is _______.

  A. Terrible Accident B. Rescue of the Passengers on the Boeing 737

  C. Indian Plane Crashed D. Bad Weather and Plane Crash

  3 、 Frank Lloyd Wright probably is the greatest architect that the United States has ever produced. He was very gifted and had a natural ability to design buildings. His buildings were not only beautiful, but they were also practical and useful. They fit their purposes very well. Wright’s churches, for example, make people feel like thinking and praying. His office buildings make people enjoy working, and his houses make people feel comfortable, at home. However, Fank Lloyd Wright’s beautiful, practical and useful buildings are not the only reason that he is famous. There is another reason.

  Frank Lloyd Wright is called the greatest American architect because he started an American style in architecture. Most of the architecture in the United States before Wright was really European, not American. Wright’s buildings do not look like old European buildings. They have their own style. Wright’s idea about style are still used in the United States and in other parts of the world.

  The most important idea in Frank Lloyd Wright’s Style of Architecture is that a building must fit its purpose and the land around it. His houses are often called “grass-land houses” because their lines are similar to the lines on the grassland. Both the lines of the grassland and the lines of Wright’s house are parallel to the horizon( 与地仄线平止 ), the place where earth and sky seem to meet. They are horizontal lines. Most European style houses, in contrast, have many vertical lines that form 90 ° angles with the horizon.

  The best title for this passage would be _________.

  A . The Differences between the American and European Styles in Architecture

  B . “Grass-land” Houses Designed by Wright

  C . How to Make Your Houses More Beautiful

  D . The Influence of Wright on American Architecture

  4 、 Governors, lawyers and business leaders have to deal with scientists, and every educated person finds his views affected by science. Yet our science teaching of non-scientists, in school and college, has built up mistaken ideas, dislikes, and the common boast, “I never did understand science.” Even those students who arrive at college with plans to become scientists usually bring a mistaken picture of science: some have a collection of unorganized facts about science, and some regard the study of science as a game which includes getting the right answer.

  The first of these attitudes seems to come from a kind of course which provides various kinds of information; the second, from a training course on how to pass examinations that do not ask about the student’s understanding but simply require him to put the numbers in the right formulas( 公式 ). Neither type of courses (in school or college) seems to give students an understanding of science as we find it among scientists. Neither shows students how real scientists work and think, how the facts are gathered, how discoveries are made, and what they mean. Young people need good teaching of science, not so much a great wealth ( deal ) of knowledge as a healthy understanding of the nature of science. They need an understanding of knowledge leading to sympathy with science and an eagerness of the way scientists work. Given these, it is easy to encourage later reading and learning.

  According to the passage, we can safely say that the subject of the passage is ______.

  A . the need for good science teaching

  B . every person, including governors, lawyers and business leaders should study science

  C . young people should form a correct attitude to science

  D . students must know what science is and how scientists work and think
