1. represent: 

  represent sth  1）描绘 This painting represents a storm. 

  2) 代表 These signs represent hills. 

  represent sb 代表 ...represent us to negotiate with them.

  represent oneself as a philosopher/a famous lawyer声称是...=regard oneself as... 

2. curious: be curious about sth/ the world around/the magic movie  对...好奇

  be curious to do sth/to know the result of yesterday's game=be eager to do  

  渴望做...

  It is curious that...=It is strange that...

3. approach: the approach（名词)of National Day 国庆临近 

  The National Day is approaching.(动词）

  two possible approaches to solve the problem. 两个解决问题的可能的办法 

  a new approach to f foreign language learning 。  

  This approach(道路.通道）is blocked.

  approach the enemy guard without being noticed. 靠近、接近

4. avoid: to avoid sth/sb/the disaster/rush hours/his teacher  躲避、避开、回避

  avoid doing sth/conflicting directly  避免直接冲突

5. similar→similarity→similarly

  be similar to .../ your idea/your plan 与...相似

  be similar in.../color/style/accent(口音）， 在...方面相似

  in a similar way  用相似的方法

6. close: 强的距离近  closely  密切地，注意地  watch closely/listen closely

      follow an argument closely  注意聆听一项议论

  be close to sp/the airport  距离机场近  stand close to the tree  靠近树站立

  get close to the ice-burg  接近/靠近冰山  

  a flat close to his office 靠近办公室的公寓

  ? one's close friend  某人的密友

7. likely ：It /sb be likely to do/ that...

  possible: It is possible to do/ that...

  probable: It is probable to do/that...      ? sb be probable/possible...  ×

8. even if/ though  即使，尽管   引导让步状语从句，用现在时表将来

  1)Even if I have to walk all the way, I'll get there in no time. 

  2）We won't give up even though we fail 100 times.

9. be willing to do sth/ that... 愿意...

 1) I'm willing to help you if necessary.  

 2) Are you willing that he serves as the team leader?
