1. struggle: struggle for one's right/liberty  为权力/自由而斗争  

  political struggle  政治斗争

  struggle with our friends  和朋友并肩斗争  

  struggle with/against the enemy  与敌人斗争

2. expand: expand the number  增加数目  expand the airport 扩建机场  

  expand one's business 扩大经营/扩展生意  

  When heated,the metal expands  ...,金属膨胀

3. equip: equip the army with new weapons 给部队装备新武器

  equip sb with knowledge  用知识武装某人

  equipment 装备、设备（不可数）a piece of equipment

4. regret: regret doing 忘记曾做过的事 eg: Kitty regretted having lied to the teacher.

  regret to do ...   很遗憾地去做...  I regret to tell you that you failed the final exam.

5. focus on=concentrate on      focus one's attention/eyes/mind on sb/ sth 

  focus the camera on ... 镜头对准...

6. reduce: be reduced to 30%  下降到30%  be reduced by 30%  下降了30%

  be reduced to doing sth  eg: be reduced to begging 沦为乞讨

7. rid...of... 去除/摆脱 : 

  rid the kitchen of mice/the world hanger  驱除厨房老鼠/消除世界饥饿

  rid oneself of debt  还清债   get rid of his parents/the illness  摆脱父母/疾病

8. would rather do ...than do ...  

  would rather +从句（虚拟)eg:1） I would rather you remained here than went away.

  2）I'd rather you hadn't done that. 3) I'd rather you would not do it.

9. refer to...: refer to a dictionary  查词典  

  refer one's notes  看稿子/笔记 eg: The speaker often referred to his notes.

  I don't refer to it. 我指的不是这事   

  Sb is referred to as a living Lei Feng. ... 被称为活雷锋

10. search: search for sth  找东西    search sb  搜身   

   search+地点+for... 搜某地找...  

      eg: search the house for the lost key/search the

   forest for the lost boy             ?  lost 丢失找不回的   missing 迷失的

11. be satisfied with sth/sb/从句 对...满意   

   eg: be staisfied with his answer/Smith/what he said

   satisfy the boy with toys  给玩具使满意   

   satisfy one's needs/demands  满足要求/需要

   to satisfy one's curiosity 满足好奇心   

   to one's great satisfaction  使某人极为满意的是

12. 倍数表达 1）倍数+as+adj+as  eg:A is three times as heavy as B.

   2) 倍数+比较级+than   eg:A is three times heavier than B.

   3) 倍数+the size/height/length/width/amount of... 

     eg: The earth is 49 times the size of the moon.

        Hill A is three times the height of Hill B.
