Looking ahead to the new year, what kind of resolutions do you make?

    在这新的一年，你有什么新年决心呢？

Many people make what is called a New Year's resolution.

    New Year's resolution, 就是新年立新决心

It is a decision to do something new or different or better in the new year.

    也就是在新年作新事情，或把一些事做得更好

One such resolution is "Seize the Day."

    其中一个决心，可以就是 Seize the Day

You must have heard of this phrase.

    你一定听过这个词

What does this phrase mean? And what are some other ways to express the same idea?

    意思是什么？有什么其他语句来表达同样想法呢？

What does it mean?

　含意为何？

Listen to what some Americans say it means.

　一些美国人这么说：

It means to me: don't waste time. 

　意思是，不要浪费光阴

I think it means "make the most of  moment" rather than just "letting time slip by".

　我想意思是，不要虚度时光，好好利用

"Seize the day" to me sort of means "grab all the good things the day will bring" and make the best out of it.

　这对我来说，是把握这一天所带来的所有美善事物，尽力摆上最好的

 It means take today and make it the best. It means to take time to pause and smell the roses.

 　这表示，把这一天做得最好。停下脚步，闻玫瑰香气

It means to embrace life. Make the most of the opportunities that come your way.

　意思是：拥抱生命。把握你所有的机会

It means: Don't put off till tomorrow what you can do today! Live each moment as if it is your last!

　这意思是：今天可做的，不要拖延直到明天。把今天看作是生命最后一天！

To Live life to the fullest  生命活得最丰盛

 

The band U2 has a famous song called "Beautiful Day." They sing: "It's a beautiful day. Don't let it get away." 著名乐团U2 有首歌 '美丽的一天', 里面有句话：多么美丽的一天，不要让它溜走了。

The concept of “seize the day" is very clear in the Bible.

    圣经里对把握今日说得很清楚

The Bible teaches that we should make the best use of today.

    那儿提到，我们要好好过每一天

Because no one is sure of tomorrow and what will happen the next day.

    因为没有人知道明日如何，会发生什么事

Since life is a gift from God, being alive is a blessing.

    生命乃是从神来的礼物，活着，就是个祝福

We need to treasure every day and make the best use of it.

    我们需要珍惜每一天，好好的过

 In other words, to use time wisely.

    换句话说，就是要善用时间

Some people USE  "Seize the day" as an excuse to just eat, drink and be merry.

    有人把seize the day 当作是尽情吃喝玩乐的一个好借口

But "To seize the day" is to live life with purpose and live it to the fullest.

    但seize the day 真正含意，乃是生活得有意义目标，并且把它发挥到最好

 

So watch your step. Use your head. Make the most of every chance you get. These are desperate times!  Don’t live carelessly, unthinkingly. Make sure you understand what the Master wants.
