Today at English World we continue our Christmas series. There was a song written in the 19th century that paints the whole picture of little Jesus in his manger. Listen as the story unfolds the birth of Christ, our Savior in the manger. 这首十九世纪所写的圣诞歌曲,旋律悦耳,是孩童最爱的。简单歌词道出耶稣降生的场景,文洁再度献唱。
Hello and Welcome to English World.
We are your radio friendS Mark, along with Wen-Jie.
Listener friend, are you excited about Christmas?
What part of it are you looking forward to?
Christmas is the biggest holiday season in the West.
People can see beautiful Christmas trees,
hear Christmas music,
enjoy Christmas dinners, exchange Christmas gifts…
AND, get together with family…
It is a wonderful time.
But don’t forget the most important part of Christmas…
That is the Christmas story.
Wen-Jie, On our last program we introduced a Christmas carol.
This song is the most famous one.
And is sung in most major languages of the world.
Well, Today we want to introduce another popular carol.
I learned this song when I was a child.
The title is: Away In A Manger.
This song is known as a children’s carol.
Children love to sing it.
It has a pleasing melody,
A gentle message
And it appeals to people of all ages.
Let’s hear it.
Song: Away in a manger
This song says: Away in a manger, no crib for a bed.
The little Lord Jesus laid down his sweet head
The word “Manger” is a long open box in a stable.
From which horses or cattle can feed.
That’s where baby Jesus was lying.
Notice the rhyme of “bed” with “head”.
Next, The stars in the bright sky looked down where He lay,
The little Lord Jesus asleep on the hay.
Once again we hear the rhymes at the end : “lay” and “hay”.
No one really knows who wrote this song.
It first appeared in a children’s songbook in the late 19th century.
It has a simple expression of love for Jesus.
And a trust in His faithful care.
No wonder it’s a popular hymn after all these years.
Let’s hear the second verse.
The second verse says,
The cattle are lowing, the Baby awakes
But little Lord Jesus no crying He makes.
Here, the word low, means the deep sound made by cattle.
lowing, and crying, awakes and makes.
These are all rhymes.
I love Thee, Lord Jesus, look down from the sky,
And stay by my cradle till morning is nigh
Nigh is an old word meaning near.
Wen-Jie, did you hear the rhyming?
Words for
Life
And she gave birth to her firstborn, a son.
She wrapped Him in cloths and placed Him in a manger,
Because there was no room for them in the inn.
因为客店里没有地方
Luke 2:7
The Lord Jesus is God’s only son.
He was born of a woman.
And He was born in a lowly manger.
This shows how Jesus humbled himself,
And became poor for our sake.
So that we can be rich in God.
A manger is the place where JESUS, our Savior, was born.
Well listener friends, today’s program was called: Away In a Manger.

(诗歌第三节)
Be near me, Lord Jesus; I ask Thee to stay
Close by me forever, and love me, I pray.
Bless all the dear children in Thy tender care,
And fit us for heaven to live with Thee there.
