Dave: Oh That’s right. So, what are you going to do instead?

Jim: I’m going to take it easy and run some errands. How about you?

Dave: I don’t have today off. I work my usual hours.

Jim: I see. Come to think of it, I need to do some shopping in a store nearby where you work.

Dave: In that case, why don’t we meet for lunch? I know a good pizza place there.

Jim: That sounds great. See you later.

Hi Jim. Aren’t you going to work today?

No. I’m off today. It’s a school holiday.

Oh That’s right. So, what are you going to do instead?

I’m going to take it easy and run some errands. How about you?

I don’t have today off. I work my usual hours.

I see. Come to think of it, I need to do some shopping in a store nearby where you work.

In that case, why don’t we meet for lunch? I know a good pizza place there.

Hey Wen-Jie, remember last week we had a day off.
It was a holiday. We didn’t have to work.

What did you do on that day?
I went to visit my friend Cathy. We had a good time together. And you?

For me, I spent the day painting the living room at home.
    So, you worked.

It’s not really work. It was just a chore I needed to finish.
Does the living room look really nice now?

Yes, it does.
I guess that’s a good way to spend your day off.

Yep. Next, we are going to hear Jim and Dave again. This time is after their lunch together.

Jim: You picked a good place. I like the food here.

Dave: Me, too. But I have to go back to work now. Where are you heading next?

Jim: I am getting a haircut and meeting up with Emily later.

Dave: I remember Emily. Are you guys going out?

Jim: Maybe go to a movie and have a late dinner.

Dave: That sounds fun. Enjoy yourselves.

You picked a good place. I like the food here.

Me, too. But I have to go back to work now. Where are you heading next?

I am getting a haircut and meeting up with Emily later.

I remember Emily. Are you guys going out?

Dave: Me, too. But I have to go back to work now. Where are you heading next?

Jim: I am getting a haircut and meeting up with Emily later.

Both work and leisure have value.

Work is a gift from God.

He has given us natural abilities and opportunities.

So that we can develop skills through work.

And we can contribute to the society and to the world.

But, If we only have work and work and work, you know what will happen?
如果工作个不停 会如何 We will burn out.

Right. we need leisure time and recreation.

We need activities to refresh our body and mind.

And rekindle our relationship with others.

Verse For Life 生命经文

“Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain.”

Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchman stands guard in vain.

Psalm 127:1

“Unless the Lord build the house, those who build it labor in vain.

Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchman stand guard in vain.”

This verse is telling us: We don’t need to work anxiously.

Not everything depends on our efforts.

It is God who builds and accomplishes things.

Therefore, we can be at peace and take it easy,

Trusting the goodness of God.

Knowing that God is in control.

As Christians, we are called to live out our faith on a daily basis.

Whether we are at home, at work, at school or at leisure.

Listener friends, time is up again.

Our lesson today was: Work and Leisure.

We hope you enjoy your work as a calling from God.

And that you delight in your leisure time with a thankful heart.

We’re so glad you’ve joined us today.

And look forward to meeting with you next time in English World.

Until then, God Bless and
    Zai-Jian.(together)

Mark, I wish the holiday last week could be longer.

I know what you mean. But, if it gets too long, then---

Then, it’s harder to come back to work.

You’ve said it.
