一、用作介词时，as well as的涵义是“还有”、“不但…而且…”。

在A as well as B的结构里，语意的重点在 A，不在 B。因此，“He can speak Spanish as well as English．”的译文应该是：“他不但会说英语，而且会讲西班牙语”。

1、主语

His parents as well as he treat me very well. 他父母和他对我都很好。

She called on you as well as I. 不但我来看你，她也拜访了你。

2、宾语

They sell books as well as newspapers. 他们既卖报也卖书。

My teacher speaks French as well as English. 我的老师不但会说英语，而且会说法语。

3、表语

She’s clever as well as beautiful. 她不但漂亮，而且聪明。

4、状语

It is unpleasant in summer as well as in winter. 冬天不好过，夏天也不好.

We need air when we are asleep as well as when we are awake.

我们不仅在醒着的时候需要空气，在睡着的时候也需要空气。

5、谓语

(1) as well as 后跟动词时，该动词通常用动名词的形式。

She sings as well as playing the piano. 她不但会弹钢琴，而且会唱歌。

He sits late at night as well as working hard during the day.

他不但白天努力工作，夜里还常熬夜。

 (2) 如果as well as连接的是两个简单动词形式，它和第二个动词实际上起着插入语的作用，那么，第二个动词则是限定动词，即与主语保持人称和数的一致。

He works, as well as sleeps, in the room. 他既在这间房里睡觉，又在这里工作。

He makes, as well as sells, shoes. 他既卖鞋，也做鞋。

(3) 如果第一个动词用于复合谓语（是分词或不定式），那么as well as后的动词应取相应形式，但不定式一般不带to。

We are repairing the roof as well as painting the walls.

我们在粉刷墙壁同时也在修理屋顶。

You ought to play games, as well as study books.

你应该读书，也应该参加运动。

(4) as well as位于句首时，后面的动词则须用动名词形式：

As well as breaking his leg, he hurt his arm. 他不但摔断了腿，而且还伤了胳膊。

二、用作连词引出比较从句，其义为“和…一样好”。

因此，“He speaks Spanish as well as English．”应译作：“他说西班牙语像说英语一样好”。语意的重点依旧在前部，不在后半部。
